Could this have been the inspiration for the XR1200?

This was built in the spring of 2006 by a local HD Dealer and some may even like it more than the new XR1200 design.

I know it may be a bit of a stretch that it inspired the XR1200, more likely a copy of the Storz (http://www.storzperf.com/xr1200.html)

Check out the "Barns Stormer" in my Gallery (http://xlforum.net/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=4784) and you decide!

Methinks somebody should read up on Harley history.

Cool bike tho.

Title is more less an attention grabber Bart. Come on, I've been reading this board for almost a year now, that must mean I have my Sportster History pretty much up to date now.:p

When do people stop considering members "newbies" around here? :)

Now that's what I call an XR. If any thing deserves the XR moniker, it's the S&S prototype bike pictured on Kev's post.

Nice write up on the S&S three cam engine in the latest Cycle World. The sporty bike looks way too long to be effective though, still a comendable effort!

Is that the new Dyna mag on the back, soon to be on my Roadster?

Now that's gonna be AWESOME!

:D

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I think that looks AWESOME and I'm excited about S&S taking those engineering steps to develop a non-Harley V-twin, but I don't know the wheelbase and weight on that bike pictured, and I suspect it would be a bit long and quite possibly heavy too.

I still like it at first glance though.

That's right,it's a big twin and not unit construction so hardley an XR type of bike IMHO.
I still think Mert's XR1200 is the best and truest modern XR.

Mert's bike is OK but it sure got fat hangin' the oil tank out there to clear the wacky rear suspension. The price is a bit unreal, too. For less you could buy a Champion frame and outfit it with a Sundance XR motor.

roadster, where are you going to get a new Champion frame? I thought they quit making those a long time ago.

I love it, even though it does make me feel old :doh

Makes it a 1,000% easier to say "Harley's ROCK".... and really mean it.
