That the mods are no longer inexpensive and easy to do. :(

When I bought the bike (04 883C) I didn't have any intention of doing any heavy mods to it. But a week after I bought it, I started...

First, I replaced the seat with the Reach low profile solo saddle.
Then I replaced the air cleaner insert, derby cover, and timing cover with the Sportster collection parts.
Next, I paid my taxes. (Cycle Shack slip ons, Dynojet jet kid, SE Aircleaner) and put a chrome HD Bar and Shield top on the carb.

I was happy at this point and rode the bike like this for a couple months. I screwed up though... I went to the Steel Pony Express rally and spent a day looking at Customs from Perewitz, Johnson, WCC, etc. and started getting a bit nuts.

Since then I've added:

Laydown license plate frame
Laydown taillight lens
Chrome ringed turn signal lenses
The module that makes the rear turn signals into brake lights
Sportster collection grips
Chrome bracket for the choke knob
Chrome switch housings
Chrome upper belt guard (and will pick up the lower next week sometime)
Chrome fuel tank mounting bolt
O-ring passenger pegs, rider pegs, and shift peg
Braided front brake line
And probably something else I'm forgetting.

Now I'm at the point where the stuff I want to do will cost significantly more (color keyed oil tank and battery cover, chrome covers for the primary, sprocket, and cam covers, laced rear wheel, chrome sprocket, 1200 conversion, plating various parts, chrome master cylinder and clutch lever bracket, braided throttle cables and clutch cable, etc.) and the task is beginning to get daunting. :(

Hopefully I can get the cosmetic stuff done by mid April, since there's a big bike show here and I'd like to enter it (It's the New Orleans show in the Superdome where Mikey and Vinnie couldn't get their bike started on American Chopper).

Look at the good side, once you do all that you will be ready to really do something different. In case you are wondering, you are just getting started. I am going to put a few pictures of my bike below to show just how stupid things will become. I am at over 20 grand in my sportster and I am still not happy. These are all the same bike in various dif. forms all costing more money along the way. I is Green now and the final touches ore going on this winter. I have a new headlight(bigger and stretched) and I will finallget fat bars and hide all the wiring. Maybe rear sets next but I don't know about that one. Part of sportster ownership is evolution as a person as well as your bike. Get used to spending money. The only thing more expensive than the bike is a wife and kids. Rottenralph

could all these mods have anything to do with sitting in the garage, drinking "Abita Amber" or " Abita purple haze", or even Abita christmas ale"?
Heck, all I know is a friend of mine just brought me a case of Abita Amber and a 6er of christmas ale, and I am sitting here drinking some and already modifying my computer! Or is it just in the water?
Hey txsporty, where did you finaly get your dyno run at?

This is too fuggin funny...

I'm sitting here spitting my Skoal into a freshly emptied bottle of Abita Christmas Ale.

I live literally 3 miles from the brewery. It's on a Hwy. that leads to one of my favorite roads to ride.

Hey txsporty

Have you been happy with the Kuryakyn stuff. I'm looking at 4-inch silver bullets as running lights. Any experience with these lights??

Why? It's like liquid therapy.

Go for a 200 mile ride, come home, throw a steak on the pit and crack open a cold Abita Amber... Heaven.

Yeah Gary is not a people person...I really don't know how he sells anything. he does have knowledge though. I saw in a post of yours that you were going to do a 1200 upgrade. I have been told that the 03 and earlyer 883 heads were actualy better than the SE heads, when doing a conversion, bigger valves or something. I'm sure thats been covered here somewhere. Jugs and pistons are resonable. But I can understand not wanting to tear your motor down, we live in south central texas, its hard to work on it while its going down the road!!!!

sawrecker

I don't see how he sells anything with his Attiude!! I think I'll stick with the 883 heads and have them done... I've been looking for Jugs and heads to send out so that I won't have to have my bike down long!! Since we in South Texas Can ride All winter long!!! (planb: unless it's flooding!!:D )

Yeah, I went through the same evolutionary process as you..7 years and 8 grand of chrome and performance doodads...then last Feb. I blacked out almost everything on the bike and did an anti-Harley emblem motiff...Put me another 3 grand in the dumper..But I love it...Keeps me out of bars and other questionable places.

It is amazing how much you can spend when motivated. I sold my red and silver flamed tank and fender set. All my odds and ends parts this year and used it to pay for my latest setup. I know someone up in the saint louis area is cruising with the red. I will change my bars(1.5 inch pullback drags with wiring inside), my headlight to a stretched one in the garage, and possibly go back to mid controls(hate to take off the P.M. fwd controls($1150) but I can ride a lot more aggressive with mids) or possibly trade the P.M's for some rearsets. Still thinking about that one. I can't wait till spring when all the work is done and I am back on the road. Included the first photo of my bike where tank and sissybar were already changed by about 4 weeks of ownership.
