Is there anyone here that has changed the sprockets on an 04 or newer sporty. Mine started out as an 883 and is now a 1200. If I did the math correct, by installing a 30 tooth pulley on the front belt, I should be just below the stock overall gearing for a 1200. I am actually having no problems with it now, I jsut feel that when it gets warmer and I go on longer rides, I will want to lower my rpms when on the highway.

A 883 is 27 teeth and a 1200 is 29 (until 03 anyway)...........The more teeth..........the lower the RPM's..........

ok i guess the main question then is will a 30 tooth from pulley fit in the stock sprocket cover with the stock length belt, or will a new longer belt be needed

The front spocket on an 04-05 883 is actually a 28 tooth and the 1200 US model has a 29. The world model 1200 does come with a 30 though and it should fit your bike without any belt change. The way to be sure is to check at the HD dealer to see if the belt part numbers match for a US and world model.
