How to check oil?

Hi I have a 88 sportster 1200 do I just have to check the oil in the side tank or is there transmission oil I need to check as well if so where do I check it from new to Harleys.

Check you motor oil with the dip stick from the oil tank on the right side of the bike. Insure the bike is standing straight up (at least on an 02 it has to be standing up.)

To check the transmission oil you need to remove the clutch cover on the left side of the bike.

I'd suggest reading your manual, or getting a Clymer repair manual that covers your bike if you don't have one, very helpful. Newbie to H-D myself, welcome to the forum! Ride safe!
