it seems connecting rods are impossible to get a good deal on for an evo sportster/buell motor.

my buell was laid down and ruined the crank and rods. its a bummer since the crank was milled down to shave weight :( i have a new crank but now im in need of rods. i tried ebay but $270 +shipping is the best i can get.

anyone have a secret parts house or a cheap place to find parts? im gonna take a drive to harley tomorrow and see what a set costs. if i remember correctly its $300+ from HD.

Just a thought if you are going to do any HP upgrades with this engine. I think if you can afford a better ("budget"?) rods, if there is such a thing for an XL. I would check out the price on a set of S&S rods. I think next to stock ones they are the next cheapest.

s&s rods are built heavier and dont rev as fast as stock one, i already looke dinto it haha

Yup your right, but stronger than the stock rods for that reason, more meat in the right spots. I looked into rod options too in the past and was not to pleased with the limited selection, I ended up getting carrillos.

Go to any shop that has a Drag Specialties catalog, or call Dan at NRHS and he'll fix you up. D.S. sells a set of OEM replacement rods with crankpin and bearings in a matched set for a very reasonable price, far less than you can get them separately.

Yes I have the catalog on CD and I can't copy it to here. The info reads:

i ordered that rod assembly today. 148.71 out the door. no tax and only $2.50 to have them shipped.

im really not worried about them being made in japan. korea, china, taiwan sure...japan, nah

i also got a master engine rebuild kit off ebay for $70 shipped. has some 82 pieces or something like that.

Used rods are better than new rods, especially new jap rods. Used rods have already stretched once. Find used rods on Ebay. Send them out to a specialty shop along with your fly wheels to be blue printed and balanced. If you don't have a crank pin, spring for a Jim's. It's the heart of your motor.

ebay is looking real sad right about now. they have a few used ironhead rods but nothing but new for the evo
