Matt,
Bud NEVER ever give those guys a bank account!!!. Fund your paypal with a virtual credit card account number that has just enough funds to pay for a specific purchase.
When I sell online I only accept postal money orders... That way the hosing you take from Paypal is minimized...
Good luck,
JMS
PS. The mids are awsum :D of course I can only look at them, it is to damn cold to ride...
roadogette 15th December 2006, 03:32 Matt, you will get an e-mail from Bert. He does accept money orders. That's how I do mine. He will send you his address. All you need to do is PM or e-mail him.
bplinson 15th December 2006, 12:24 Sorry to hear about the PayPal loss. It sounds like you are a victim of a phishing scamm.
Yes you can use a money order.
All PayPal users should be wary of any email which asks you to click on a link and enter PayPal or any other website. In other words do not do it. This is the only way that someone can your your login credentials.
If you think that the email is ledgit forget it. PayPal and Ebay will never send you an email asking to you click a link to log in. If you are really worried then open a browser window and go to PayPal typing in the URL. This way you can not be taken to phishing website.
If you have a doubt forward any email to spoof@paypal.com and for eBay spoof@ebay.com.
I have been using PayPal since 1999 with no problem.
gronk62 15th December 2006, 12:53 I don't trust paypal at all.
The last transaction I made they double dipped my credit card.
It takes a cuppla days for the transaction to go through the banks here and I was lucky I caught it just in time to stop them taking my money.
fafcpa 15th December 2006, 16:07 I have received email asking me to click, forwarded them to paypal and they have confirmed it was a phishing attempt. They will help but you have to use the spoof forwarding.

tprJJ49707 15th December 2006, 21:05 Paypal/Ebay will address legitimate items to proper account holder's name, to 'John E. Citizen,' never to 'Johneewad@yahoo.com.' Also, phishers will clone ebay page in their attempts, just make sure it has legitimate address like www.ebay/service, etc and not www.KNJGKMUHU... or indecipherable letters.
I must admit, it is tempting to reply to the message with good old fashioned obscenities translated into Nigerian with help from Babel Fish...
milmat1 15th December 2006, 23:32 THANKS Guy's !!
I have a while before my subscription ends. Just don't want to let it lapse.
And I think I will open a dedicated account for online purchases, Leaving just enough money in it for the purpose.
THANKS !!
thescreenman 16th December 2006, 18:21 Hi,I have a question,i just now put a order in at j&p and went with my paypal account.Do you think someone could grab it that way?Ive done it once before not to make another account up or should I,what do you guys use when ordering from them?Thank You
rottenralph 16th December 2006, 18:32 we have over 2000 paypal transactions with no problems. Not sure how you got phished but it is not the norm. The fees do suck but most items that are money order only get lesser bids.
JohnT 16th December 2006, 18:51 This may be old news, but when you have a suspect email open, click on View and Options on the menu (Outlook), and you can see the complete track of where the email originally came from and all the steps in between. These phony emails from EBay and PayPal usually track back to an email account outside the US.
milmat1 16th December 2006, 23:08 In answer to your question. Screenman, It is very rare that things like this happen. PayPal handles millions of transactions per year with a handful of fraud charges. Ordering from J&P or any other reputable comany is pretty safe! The Seller never see's your information. Your payment simply shows up in his account when you pay.
There have been a few cases like myself where PAYPAL was the culprit though. But still handling that many transactions there will be a few screwups! PayPal will correct it once they investigate it.
If you have any concerns at all GO to paypal.com and change your password !!! And let them know your concerns! The best advise is what Bert said, Use a seperate bank account and only put enough money in it to cover what you need !! If you have a credit card with fraud protection you could use it as well. Most card companies will remove fraudy charges for you !!
But You should be plenty safe !!!
Deek 17th December 2006, 00:13 I have tons of ebay transactions as well and have never had an issue. I have had several phishing attempts however and each one looks more legit than the last.
Bottom line, never reply to an email that you receive from "paypal" asking you to log in and verify. 99% of the phishing scheme's work this way. I get at least one every week or two.
BTW, ordering from J&P online is as safe as online transactions get.

No....100% of the phishing scams do this. Bottom line is NEVER click any link in any email that says it is from PayPal, eBay, ANY CREDIT CARD YOU OWN, or ANY BANK. Do not even do it in emails from credit card or banks that you do not have or belong to.
If you think the email is legit call the bank or credit card company to find out if it is true.
Or open a browser (without clicking the link), got to the website in question and check your messages there.
For those of you who are really worried about this and are not so techno savvy I would recommend buying Norton Internet Security 2007 adn only using Internet Explorer 7. Norton Internet Security's phishing protection is the best I have seen. In IE7 it puts a big green bar across the top of the browser for safe websites. If the website is a scam it will turn red and not open the scammer website unless you tell it to.
Norton Internet Security 2007 is available at http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=is&pvid=nis2007
If you call them and order ask the three license offer and then you can install it on three computers for just $49.95. Otherwise you get one license. You will then get an email from Norton telling you where to download the program and how to install it.
chrishajer 17th December 2006, 18:01 IE7 and FF2 both have anti-phishing built in. FF calls it safe browsing, and IE7 calls it Phishing Filter or something.
Also, the google toolbar for either browser has it built in too.
I have to disagree with Bert on the Norton Internet Security. All those Norton suites seem to just kill the performance on the computer; they're very resource intensive.
I would use the tools that are built into the latest browsers, or download the Google Toolbar. Google intercepts your attempted visit to a suspected phishing site and shows a little popup message and greys the screen. I test it every once in a while: here is an example of it in action. It works :)

True but if you have a new PC with Dual Core processor it does not affect the system much.

thescreenman 17th December 2006, 19:50 Milmat1,thank you for that answer.Lately and mostly on ebay when you go to pay the paypal screen pops right up and to me thats something new.I do use a card with protection and a know j&p is on the money. On ebay when I get the links from my email i go to the paypal site and do the transaction. On some new company I never heard of its like a gamble.I did a search on one dont remember the name was about a year ago and was a fake company that was still set up taken peoples money, and busted written all over the search answers.Must be legal in other parts of the world to avoid being busted for scamming Americans .
