Someone might remind this fellow that Honda quit something once, World Superbike. They claimed it was because they wanted to concentrate their resources on Moto GP racing. One thing Honda has plenty of is 'resources'. The fact is that World Superbike success didn't sell many bikes for them because it was an odd class, v-twin sportbikes, that just did not catch on with the public like straight fours did. Harley recognized they had the same problem with their racing program- relevance. If they didn't plan to sell something that at least looked like the race bike, why bother? They determined that it was just a waste of resources. At this point, I realize that, by responding this fool, I've come down to his level. And I just remembered one of our good buddies here has been warning us about the danger of doing just that, so I'm done. Screw this guy. Sportys rule, so say I!

"I don't think that we've seen any innovation from Milwaukee for sixty years now. If Japan, Italy, and Germany did product development the same way that Harley Davidson does, there wouldn't be Honda, Ducati, or BMW bikes."

Must be why many of those other manufacturers have been trying very hard in recent years to make their cheap, no re-sale value bikes LOOK like Harleys. hehehe What a muldoon!

Didn't even read it, just Gary's post. I like that guy. I love misguided, sterotyping, over-compensating whiners. They entertain me.

nut, right wing, blue collar, two daughter raisin',
Gulf War vet, hard working, harder playing, ride's

and discuss the finer points of life. Seriously. Guys like this are fun to rile up and get all twisted around in their dicked up logic. Doesn't make me angry, just reaffirms my way of life.

Funny thing is, even though this is a Sportster forum, other than the occassional off hand comments and venting, I rarely see any one here bash any one else on two wheels regardless of where it was made.

If I wanted to go faster than anything else I would have bought a faster bike. I don't -- I have owned very fast cars and cars that would top out at 45MPH or cars that have all of around 30 hp -- I burn gasoline for fun and all my choices are for fun not to prove that I can buy the fastest or beat every pissant that comes down the street -- I don't have to.

Everyone is entitled to his opinion but I know one thing, I have some Compadre's that are not middle aged, balding accountants who could break this dude's jap riding ass in a heartbeat. I will say that there are alot of RUBs looking to sport the image coming out of the woodwork but there are many Harley riders who are the real deal also.

It is the real deals that have allowed the wannabes to live a dream even if it is on the weekends. That is a fact. The rest I found is a bitter rant.

I've got a couple of "sport bikers" down the street and we're friendly when passing one another. But I have to say........even the loudest, most obnoxious, in your face Harley is infinitely less annoying than having to listen to one of those mosquitos screaming down the street.

Just a little anecdotal aside on the issue.....A quick perusal of my motorcycle fatality info indicates that, at least around here, sport bikers get all kacked up more often than Harley riders. Scream, you high performance skeeters, Scream! hehe

He actually makes a few valid points. Most of them are directed at the people that buy big twins, and HD is a huge marketing success story. He!!, HD will tell you it's about image.

But man, I can't believe someone spent that much time, on something that could have been accomplished in 1/4 - or less - space. That guys got some issues, that's for sure. I'm thinking a heart attack or stroke by, say, 40?

I do believe he ignored facts just for ranting purposes. There's alot more to the buell then what he's talking about and anyone who owns one or knows the history can tell you that. He also makes no comment on the V-rod, and applies alot of old myths, and nonsense when regarding harleys and their owners. I myself fall under none of thoses biases, and I love my bike for what it is, not for what it isn't!

Some of you may not like what I have to say but maybe you will agree with me?

I had a youngster (surfer looking dude) and his cheesecake looking girlfriend on a rice rocket pull up to me at the stop light. We had traffic and I had the lead left lane to myself. The guy squeezed into my lane (AFTER SPLITTING THE TRAFFIC LINE) right next to me and even though it rubbed me the wrong way, I gave him a decent nod and the dude looked at me up and down in a cross way. I wear a half helmet and I told the f-cker that I will kick him and his girlfreind off of that jap shit for squeezing in on my lane!

Dude turned yellow and apologized (I did think that was a good thing) and when the light turned green he bolted. I just cruised down the road. Not all Harley riders are assholes to import riders but there are many of us that will educate (older, wiser, meaner, recovering, been there done that) the young who are too stupid to know when they f-cked up or who they are f-cking with!

He published the first email I sent him without me knowing. Someone visited his site and emailed me from it (he had published my email address as well).

Well, when I got the email from his visitor I figured I'd see what was said. Sure enough, he tried to take apart my email like he has so many others.

I had a good laugh at it, and emailed him to let him know. He thanked me for having a sense of humor and we BS'ed a bit about bikes. So I kept his email address handy. And I'll drop him a line from time to time.

What I find highly amusing is how true some of his ramblings are. But if you can't laugh at yourself, you shouldn't laugh at anyone else.

I ran across this guy's site about a year ago and I almost died laughing. Even though I truly hate to admit it, some of the stuff he says is true. The reason he hates HD's and certain HD riders so much is because he was snubbed so many times by HD elitists for riding a Japanese bike. Maybe he went a little overboard with it. But, its the exact same thing when some a-hole on a BT, who couldn't change the oil on his bike if he had to, chides a Sportster rider for riding a "girls bike". For some reason, it makes certain people happy to berate someone else's bike, makes them feel like more of man. Statement's like "why don't you get a real bike" or "if you were a real man, you'd ride a Harley" are just pure garbage and are the reason for this kind of animosity by many foreign bike enthusiasts. I refuse to treat these people with disrespect just because they chose a foreign bike. This lack of respect is the reason for this guy's website.

I use my Sporty for tooling around and as a pit bike.
One day at the track some guy pulls up on his rice bike to me standing next to my Sporty and informs me that I should take that slow pig home and not waste track time.
He didn't notice the blown '03 Mustang Cobra sitting next to the Sporty. I told him I'd race what I came with and in a grudge match blow his helmet off.
He laughed and said your on. I pull up in the next lane at the line with this 500+ hp fire breathing Cobra (it's what I came to race). The look on his face was priceless. I then proceeded to blew his helmet off after filling it with tire smoke, real bad. There is alot to be said about good American iron.
When I want to scare the crap out of myself I get in the Cobra and when what I want is fun I get on my Sporty.

I know guy's like him, they think their opnion is always right because it's "their opnion". I guess I shouldn't let it bother me, but sometimes it does.

Last Sunday I was in a Suzuki shop with my buddy who rides sportbikes. He said to me, "well, which one do ya like." I politely said, "I really don't care for any of them, just not my thing." "Not even the cruisers?", he says. I just again said, "no thank you."

That being said... if the tables were turned and we were at a HD dealer the same guy would of been talking all kinds of nonsence about HD's. He's my good buddy, and bikes are about the only thing we don't see eye to eye on. But you won't here me talking them down to him.....poke fun, yes.

He has probably had his ass kicked by some guys on Harleys and this is his big payback.
What a ween.
I am guessing another session of woop will be dished out to him and his ass.

Maybe the fact that people spend over a million dollars at Barret Jackson on a old Hemi Cuda insted of spending a small portion of that on a new 427 Z06 means Harley owners are not the only so called stupid people out there. From now on we will call this guy Richard , no wait that to long lets just call him Dick!

I was didn't read more than the blurb posted in the thread here, but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night. I want to produce the next Geico commercial, So easy, a biker can do it. With the neandrathal's wearing RUB clothes in it.
And they called those Dingo boots. FYI

And I think this guy was the victim of one too many "biker makovers".

Dude has obviously never ridden a harley.....

I think some harley rider picked on him and stole his girlfriend.

Why go to such great lengths to Trash HD's ?

"Thou do protesteth too Loudly"..:doh

I think this guy is suffering from "Big Bore Eny"

or maybe he is overcompensating for a Small Piston !!

Why else would he put so much effort into something he thinks is so useless ??

Besides I think Tractor Engines have come a Long Way !:shhhh

Yeah, I ran across that piece of crap babbling almost a year ago. Had a good laugh, and never gave it a second thought.

When a psychotic with a small "whatzit" and anger management issues is allowed access to the Internet, one should not be surprised at the outcome.

I'm sure if you looked hard enough you could probably find a similar nut-case spewing a like amount of venom about baseball and apple pie. So what? :D

Mr. Christopher Shields opinion piece was written 14 years ago!

After reading the article, I gazed long and seriously at my Sportster!

My conclusion -------- It does look like a motorcycle!

i read through most of this website rolling with laughter, then sat looking out the window dreaming of what was CBR600F Chopped XV535, Custom Vstar1100 with side car and what now is Chopped XV535, Custom Vstar1100 still with side car ;) and a XL1200C oh look no CBR and why for all its performance and handling it was soulless and ahem slow in a straight line relavtivily speaking drop the side car off the Vstar roll on at 40 and kiss most things including the CBR good bye, torque is so much more fun than peak hp
