I got a problem with foot pegs for my Sporty. The trouble is the frame is a 77 and the engine is a 71. On the 71 sportys the pegs mounted of the frame. In 77 the pegs mounted on the side of the engine. Since I got a bolt on hard tail the bikes bottom frame rails are 4 inches from the ground so I don't want to make something that bolts or welds to the bottom of the frame. And I dont think I can weld the pegs to the frame because I need to be able to take the enging out of the frame. I do have some 1/2 inch round stock and an oxy-acetaline torch if I need to make somthing. If there is anything that I can buy or make that you guys know of It would be awsome if I get some ideas. Thanks

Jim you might want to go with forward controls. They mount at the front eng. mounts. Custom Chrome or J&P have them around $300.00.

I did actually put a pair of custom chrome forward controls on the bike. But because its a sporty, the forward controls were too forward, because they were made to clear the front pipe. And because my hartail section, the seat is moved back, I cant even reach the damn things. So I got to go with the Mid controls, Plus Mid controls would look sweet with my drag bars.

My 1980 had the fwd ctrls mounted at the front lower engine mount bolts when i bought it. Too far forward for my 5'7" frame. So i moved them back 3,1/2" to the next set of lower engine mount bolts. Perfect now.

The left side was easy - just had to make a shorter rod. The right side was more of a challenge [i] because the upper bolt is hidden, and i had to cut the welded-on nut from the engine mounting plate; and [ii] i wanted to install the brake master cyl at it's original location. I did it by installing two of the parts upside down. It works!

If this sounds like it might be helpful PM me or post in the IronHead section and i'll provide more details.
