He can protect me from the grizzly bears! Are you riding up there?! If so, I sure hope you've done a ton of research and considering. I lived up there and have traveled the ALCAN and I can tell you there is no way I'd ride a bike on that route. I know folks who have but I wouldn't. Not so much for the danger but it would be a physically demanding ride and I'd fear it trashing my bike. I know I wouldn't enjoy it. There are holes in that road that can almost literally swallow a Volkswagon. The front end on my Bronco has never been right since the trip down. And whoever mentioned the mosquittos, that's no BS. The tundra during that time of year can be brutal. Not trying to rain on any parades just offering one man's opinion. KC_Sporty_Gal 13th January 2007, 02:41 The plans are to ride 200 miles north of Fairbanks on Dalton Highway and camp at the arctic circle. We've done our research and talked to people who have ridden their motorcycles to there. Are you riding up there?! If so, I sure hope you've done a ton of research and considering. KC_Sporty_Gal 13th January 2007, 03:42 Nah, I wouldn't trust a bungee to hold the lil guy. I'm going to make a harness for him. Gotta find out his dimentions so I can get him fitten properly. Please if you use a bungee, use several just in case one snaps. We must protect the little guy. Screw Loose Dan 20th January 2007, 16:45 OMG!!! I think Willi needs to come with me! KC- I don't know anything about Willi, but I hope that all goes well for you. I live in the NW corner of iowa. A bunch of friends of mine & I (4 bikes total, 7 people) are planning a trip to the great AK leaving June 22. Hoping to get to Fairbanks in about 4 1/2 days, explore Alaska, and get back home on July 8. We may try to squeeze in a stop at NRHS for the "4th of July" customer app. weekend on the way home, as we went to last years' and it was an experience to say the least. If ya'll can adjust your dates a little, maybe we could ride together or meet up some where along the way? (Our dates are pretty set in stone). Anyways, try to keep us posted with any advice/plans/etc. and I'll try to do the same. -nic |
