I just removed the center stip on the tank and is anyone aware of a better fitting gas cap than the stock? I'd like one that sits a bit lower to the tank.

Broncodog 2nd December 2004, 02:01 Not bad tech :D Turbota 2nd December 2004, 02:30 So ... Some of you may thing the sink gasket trick is a joke ... If the outer ring of the cap is installed a little too tight, it may eat into your tank's paint job. It did it to mine .... Just a little tip .... You can go to Home Depot and purchase a rubber gasket that is used to seal a kitchen sink drain (maybe for use with a garbage disposal). Anyway, this gasket is cut very cleanly and will only extend about 1/16" outside the fuel filler cap's outer ring. No damage to your paint job, and will cover any damage from a previously over tightened Kuryakyn fuel filler cap. Cost is less than 2 dollars! You will need to use a razor blade or an Exacto knife to cut just a little from the inside diameter of the gasket to make it fit (nothing needs to be cut on the gaskets outside diameter) ... This modification does not ruin the looks of the cap install, and it protects your paint! Note: Bring the outer metal ring of the fuel filler cap into the store to make sure you get the correct rubber gasket. Here it is on my 04 1200R: (with the gasket installed) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/Turbota/Top.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/Turbota/FuelCap.jpg TechRep 2nd December 2004, 03:01 Turbota is right on with that... I was lucky and being careful doing the install and if over torqued it will dig in the paint. Actually I had wished I could have torqued it more. Maybe I'll head down to Home Depot.... txsporty 2nd December 2004, 03:52 Yes!!!! Turbota your the one that told me about the rubber Gasket!!! Thanks Worked Great!!! Couldn't remember who it was!!!! :D Artie Turbota is the one to thank about the Gasket!! Great Idea!!!! Looks Good Also!! :D rottenralph 2nd December 2004, 03:55 You could always buy a stretched tank with the a/c style locking cap in it. That works too. Little more expensive. Broncodog 2nd December 2004, 05:53 Hats off to ya Turbota :clap Just the look I want :D Turbota 2nd December 2004, 06:35 Thanks everyone ... :) |
