View Full Version : White Goo?
bsporty 13th January 2007, 23:22 So the BF decided to disasemble his Firebolt a little. The bike had been to the dealer for the 1000mi service. When he got the airbox cover off we noticed a white substance that even Tony Montana would have looked at.
What the hell is it?http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f227/bsporty/DSCN0982.jpg
cootertwo 13th January 2007, 23:24 You had it parked too close to your Sporty, and the poor thing got all excited!
cjburr 14th January 2007, 01:22 Oil mist from the breathers and condensation ??
DC in PHX 14th January 2007, 01:27 did you get it used? maybe it used to be used in drug runs and they hid the dope in the air box? Probably wrong, but still a good story:rolleyes:
DC
Matt 14th January 2007, 02:20 I think cj is right but cooter gets the laugh.

DustyJacket 14th January 2007, 02:50 Looks similar to the oil/water goo in my catch can. Probably from the heads.
HaDee75 14th January 2007, 11:49 Can you scrape it off easy? Like with a nail or so, or is it really sticky?
jmans883 14th January 2007, 12:39 did you taste it , or smell it ??, but before you taste it get the phone handy with the paramedics number ready
pquirk 14th January 2007, 15:10 Yeah, it looks like H20/oil combo, seems to make icky white crap. I've seen that on the inside of the oil cap in my air-cooled beetle before, probably from condensation like someone said. I never worried about it and the cars been runnin' strong for a looooooong time :). I used to only run Castrol oil in it and someone told me the gunk was because that oil, I never bothered to experiment though :dunno.
Jason's Sporty 14th January 2007, 15:48 agree with the breather scuzz theory, have had the same happen to the breather filter on my 86 cause its still located on the cam cover.
NickNasty 14th January 2007, 16:35 Yep! That's breather crap! The breathers are run into the A/C. I bought a breather kit, (2 actually, Anyone interested in a Dorherty breather set, paid$125, will give good deal), that re-routes the breather to the botton of the engine w/ a breather filter on the end. Your problem will get worse with a hard run of highway driving. So much so, that it will cover the whole right side of the bike and your right leg. The stock design also has a tendency to suck oil into the intake. Is there anyone out there that thinks this is a good idea? Not me.
Below are some options:
This is the breather kit I have to install. Probably this week.

I am only putting on a filter on the end of the s/s/ braided hose, this isn't a bad idea either: Engine Breather Oil Collector
"Most experienced builders know the problem of oil mist being expelled from the crankcase (especially true of modified or big inch stroker motors). This oil finds its way everywhere- pipes, rear wheel, frame, etc. No matter where you put the vent hose, it will eventually make a mess. The Engine Breather Oil Collector (EBOC) solves the problem by collecting the oil and allowing you to drain it when necessary. Made from billet aluminum. Internally baffled with breather filter included. Can be used in conjunction with Spyke or Hayden PCV valves. Overall height 5", canister size 2-3/4" high with 1-1/2" diameter. Drain plug is on bottom. Fits all models 1993-99. Made in the USA."

There are other option like increasing the drain hole size in the rocker boxes to allow the oil to drain faster. (Caution: Only drill out 1 size larger). I did this and white foam still comes out of the breathers. Anyway. You get the idea. End the routing of breathers into the A/C and keep the oil out of the intake....Nick
