I'm thinking about changing out my 28T front sprocket for either a 29T or the 30T that comes on export XLs. I know the 07 has unique sprockets because of the new narrower belt, so does anyone have the HD part numbers for the 29T and 30T sprockets? Thanks.

My parts manual lists the following:
40379-04 - 28T
40409-04 - 29T
40380-04 - 30T
I've been looking at this myself. How are you going to change the speedometer to read correctly? Or are you not going to worry about it?

I hadn't planned to worry about the speedo unless it turns out to be WAY off.
Those part numbers bother me. The -04 would indicate they are for 04 to 06 bikes. I'm pretty sure I read that the 07 carbon fiber belts are narrower, so would this not necessitate a different sprocket?

Well, the numbers are right out of my 2007 HD parts Catalog (part number 99451-07).
I can't answer about the belt being narrower. I know the belt is different, but I didn't realize narrower. I just thought it was made of different material (but I could be totally wrong). The parts catalog does list the belts as:
40371-07 136T (883's)
40591-07 137T (1200's)

Gary i dont believe the belts on the 07,s are any different than the 04 to 06. i am not sure why they would put a narrower belt on the 07,s the tire size is still the same on 04 and newer sportsters.

I could have sworn I read somewhere on the HD web site that the new carbon fiber belts for the XL were narrower.
Oh well...

04-06 belts should be 1 1/8". 2007 softails went to a 20mm (3/4") wide belt. All are 14mm pitch on the teeth spacing.....:geek:geek:geek

The '07 Sportster belt is narrower. It is a better belt, all HD's went to a narrower belt in '07.
But, why does the sprocket need to be narrower? Can't a narrower belt run on a wider sprocket? Well it can, the sprockets didn't change, those are the right part #'s.
BTW, when Big Twin's went from a 1 1/2" belt to a 1 1/8" belt the front sprocket remained unchanged still to this day.

One other thing to consider is if you jump from a 28T to a 30T you may need a new belt because the old belt may not be long enough. I went from a 28T to a 29T and I had ample belt length, but I've seen on this forum that jumping up two sizes could necessitate a belt change.
