View Full Version : ALL READ IMMEDIATLY - Con Artist in our midst

15th January 2007, 21:15
XL Forum member Hogpreacher, aka Spidermania, aka PotBellyPig, aka warrabit, aka FTWx2, aka 3DogNight, has been permanently banned from The XL Forum.

He is a con artist that is using multiple user names to solicite donations for an imaginary friend that he says he is building a Sportster for.

Please see this thread: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?threadid=45369

Be VERY leary of anyone asking you to donate them parts for their Sportster.

It sucks that the Internet has people like this but it does and we need to look out for each other. If you notice any thread on The XL Forum where someone is asking for donation part please report it so that the Admininstrators and Moderators can verify that it is not someone trying to rip people off.

This kind of sucks. I hope that he just didn't create multiple aliases to help his cause. Do we really know if he was ripping people off? I mean his other posts were quite normal. Thanks Bert and others.

I've sent parts to people as well... but usually only the people that I've seen around the list for awhile. Great catch! Hopefully he doesn't sign up with another user name though.

I hope that he just didn't create multiple aliases to help his cause. Do we really know if he was ripping people off?

Yes. PotBellyPig is one of his alias and was only made to bump his original post and to make members here think that his cause was nobel.

I do not know if his "friend" is real or not or if she has a real need.

Ask yourself this....would you, or any other honest and reasonable person, create multiple user names to come on here and tell themselves that they are gonna send themselves free parts???

Bert, from your point of view, I'm sorry that you have to be leery of your own forum members. Getting a scammer like this is as bad as a club having a rat in the house, but at least they get to prospect people first to try and weed the rats out; you don't have that luxury. Most bikers I know go by the rule that a man's word is his bond, and to have one of your own break that bond so easily is disheartening.

However, from my point of view, I'm glad to see that you, John and our moderators are on top of matters; it's good to know that we've got such stand-up people as yourselves keeping watch on things around here. Tell everyone on your command staff that I appreciate what they do.

OK, I feel better for the Baptists now.:clap

Can't recall what thread but hogpreacher claimed to be a Baptist minister, then in P&R he came across as the Anti-Baptist.

I know lots of folks here don't like Preachers or Christians, but don't lump Hogpreacher in with us.

Yea big thanks for Doc staying persistant on watching this guy.

Thanks Doc and Bert. I noticed a couple postings from him but nothing about building a bike. Just mundane stuff. Good catch.
He's been playing with multiple personalties before using them to debate P&R stuff. Even though we knew about his multiple IDs he never hurt anything before. I wonder now if he was testing the place to see if we'd catch on. He must have figured we weren't on to him so it was time to try the big con out. Doc's had the bad feeling about him and kept his eye on the guy for while now, good eye Doc!!!

At least he wished himself a happy nwe year...

It was late in the evening as three guys sat at a table in the corner hunched over their drinks

They were talking excitedly amongst themselves, which was rare as they normally sat sullen faced and morose bitching about how life had treated them badly. The guy talking the most was outlining his new plan...

"Listen Man it's so simple..." "We pretend we're helping out a poor sick Friend by building them a bike, then we get these stupid ass's from this Forum to send us bits to help build it..."

You could tell he was pleased with his plan and as the night progressed they realised they were about to make it big.

"Damn Dude, we could hit on every forum, get them all to send bits and we'll make bikes outta them for free..."

They all sat watching the "Leader" working away at the PC, laughing as they downed their beers.

As soon as they got the first reply they knew they had hit gold dust

"Here it goes man our first FREE bike is on it's way...."

The euphoria was short lived... There on the Screen was the Voice of the Forum...

The message was long, but in truth it only meant one thing...

"Back of Buddy we know who you are..."

I gave my old set of Bassani Pro Street pipes to a member here ( didn't want to sell to him that which was broken ). I had them welded ( where they had cracked ) and had a new set of thunder boltz made..... I kept the original boltz. I felt real good about this....giving to a forum member......Nope, they did not go to this guy......Now, if I'd went to all that trouble for a scammer...... I believe I'd be a bit ticked off......well you know what I mean .....it would have taken all the fun out of giving something away. Thanks for the good work catching this guy!

Bert, you're the guardian angel....

Just makes me want to not give anything to anybody......except a piece of my mind. That's free.....

Truthfully, it's really sad that someone would take advantage of the graciousness of other people....especially under the auspices of being a man of god..... As they say...Karma is a bitch.
