Not sure...I'll have a look at one here...
I've just done the rough shaping of your ports and I saw the bolt hole you were talking about :(
I'm gonna take that head around and get it welded up....ya'll still have 'em next week tho.... I'll finish 'em this weekend :)

I just had a look at an old cover and I think you are refering to an oil gallery..
YES ... PLUG IT...
I would probably use an 1/8" bsp fitting , drill and tap it....
have a close look at it and see what ya can do so it doesn't block the gallery....I don't have a 4 speed on off a bike here and I don't know how far you've cut it back
You need to clean all those galleries out too..... carby cleaner with a nozzle on it and compressed air

Mate, your on the ball as usuall, There seems to be a hole that runs through the bottom of the cam cover centre, It does go up into the cam area, I dono why you have a hole runnin down there except for a drain hole go figure !!!!.
You found me bolt hole, I thought that would have stuck out like a "hole in the head".
Take ya time mate not In a hurry.

I didn't lok at the bolts... I was lookin at the inserts and steps... once I saw it it certainly stood out..:D
I found the drill ya had in the middle of the bolt too....ouch
Broke a solid carbide drill bit....... I ended up having to dig it out from one side with the die grinder and a carbide burr...
I'll drop it off this arvo to get it welded up ....it'll look like it was never done when I'm finished...
the hole in ya cam cover is for the oil gallery ... you can't drill curved holes.... so ya drill one way and then at an angle to join them up..... then you plug the spare hole..
That's what that is...it's a drill gallery..... if you have a close look at your carb you'll see the same thing..
and if ya gonna drill and tap it for a bolt or plug .... then buy a new drill bit to suit and use a bit of kero/degreaser as lube while ya drilling and tapping...
Then clean it all out with carby cleaner and lotite it in there, then put a couple of centre pops around the outside of it if it's a plug....helps stop it comin out
