Well the new pipes are on and the results are awesome. Here are the details:
Cycle Shack Tapered Slip-Ons
Screamin Eagle AC (29042-04B)
46 Pilot
185 Main
2.5 Turns Out on idle mixture screw
I was supposed to get a free Dyno with the install, but their machine was “broken,” so they gave me a coupon to get the Dyno when I come in for my 5K. I’ll post my numbers when I get them.
It was 33* this morning and the bike fired right up. With the enrichener fully out, the pipes are loud but deep. My wife says that, even though they are louder, it isn’t as bothersome because the deeper note is more comfortable to be around. Fully warmed up the pipes perform great. Sweet spot has moved up in the RPM range. Cruising in 5th is now vibration free at 72 instead of 65. Painful vibration at 80 is now gone. Got her up over 90 today and she felt like she was just getting started, whereas before I felt like I was hitting her limit. The lean miss I had at 2700 rpm is also gone. No pops, stutters, stumbles or farts. If she rides this well in the cold, I can’t wait to see what she does in the summer.
As far as looks go, the pipes are a full inch smaller in diameter. I didn’t realize how fat and ugly the stock pipes were until they were off. I also like the nice clean look of the airbox without the snorkel. I kept the stock insert to preserve the original look as much as possible. I am going for the total sleeper effect. Pics are below. For anyone thinking of getting this work done, it is definitely a worthwhile investment. The bike now feels like it was meant to. Go for it now before the EPA makes Stage 1 a thing of the past.
