Well be at westminester HD feb 10th big Sporty day going on
Kelley 25th January 2007, 04:33 I know what you mean Johnny. Finally got the bike out for a short ride yesterday afternoon, felt good to have the wind in my face again. Been real busy w/ new job selling home/light commercial security systems. If anyone in So Cal is interested let me know. Busy the next couple of weekends. Did post about a cool ride in April http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=45668
I'll keep my eyes open for rides and hope to get out w/ the group soon.
dashadow 25th January 2007, 04:56 Almost we may have to leave out the titty bar :smoke :smoke
I know of at least one open on Sunday!!
dashadow 25th January 2007, 04:58 Hey just send me an email and I'll try to ride. I live close to fullerton HD,
I live close to there too. Sunny Hills area of Fullerton. Keep an eye on the board for our next group ride, we've got to get together.
H34TH3N 25th January 2007, 16:49 Im out usually every sunday, just to the canyons and rock store....always up to meet someone new on a sporty.
itsshemp 25th January 2007, 21:46 Someone say TT bar!? :D :D :D
I cant ride this weekend, but next weekend, I should have Saturday free. Sunday (4th) is Superbowl, so...... that would have to be a short AM ride. The following weekends should be wide open till Prez day weekend.
Its still a little chilly in the mountains around my area, where i LOVE to ride, so.....
Maybe something centrally, so JohnnyG wont have to go so far, just to get there.
When the weather gets better, I am thinking about making a HUGE loop from Temecula area, out toward Warner Springs, Julian, then out to Cuyumaca mtns, and down through San Diego, and back up.
Once the weather is nicer in those areas. It can kill a day, with plenty of places to stop along the way.
I will post that ride, when I decide to do it. That will be a SoCal ride, that i think will be FUN!
For now, lets come up with something.

I have never been on the Julian ride but I have heard its awesome. I like meeting at Glendale HD it really seems to be a central location for most of us and ridding out from there. This time of year is hard to predict the weather but even meeting there and just going out for a nice lunch and a small ride works for me because I love to ride and eat and drink and go to TT bars.:clap

I'm up for Sundays (and sometimes Saturdays as well) outa OC. Post a suggestion in enough time so we haven't made other plans. If I don't have a bike thing to do, I try to go shoot sporting clays on Sunday.
As far as the TTB, I went to Capo last Sunday and stopped at the Swallows.
When I went into the john, I found out why they call it the Swallows-ain't got nothin' to do with birds-at least not anymore. I found a poker ride that went from bar to bar (for shame). could only follow along for a few-my daughter had volleyball practice.
XLXR 26th January 2007, 19:38 I'll pick the meeting time. 9 am. You tell me where. I would like to do some great canyon runs. Stop for lunch, turn around and do it all again.
doxbike 27th January 2007, 00:02 I can't do it this week-end, but how 'bout a run down Ortega Hwy to the biker bar/restaurant there for "brunch"?
1stGenRex 27th January 2007, 00:24 maybe the 3rd weekend of feb?
XLXR 27th January 2007, 00:36 I'm going THIS Sunday, I'll be anywhere by 9 am. You tell me where. I'll meet one guy or 10 guys. I would like to go somewhere I haven't been. I have been to Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, and do Ortega at night all the time because I live 20 minutes from there.
doxbike 27th January 2007, 02:19 Love to join you this Sunday, but I promised to take my daughter skiing already.
She's headed for college next fall, and I want to spend as much time with her as she wants, while she wants. Hopefully next time
Johnny G 27th January 2007, 02:19 Now it looks like its going to possibly rain this weekend. CHIT! I guess I will have to watch the weather and see what its going to do. Worst case is we just pick a upcoming Sunday and start making plans. I don't think to many are going to want to miss the Superbowl.
XLXR 27th January 2007, 17:27 News said 30% chance of rain Sunday, more likely north of LA. That means there is a 70% chance I'll get a ride in south of LA. I have no desire to ride in the rain. Maybe Ortega after all. I won't decide until 8 am Sunday.
H34TH3N 27th January 2007, 18:40 I dont watch or care about ball and stick sports, Ill ride any sunday...
Johnny G 27th January 2007, 18:59 I dont watch or care about ball and stick sports, Ill ride any sunday...
I am not much of a sport fan either but I like to get drunk and watch all the Superbowl advertisements, I would how ever ride if it were a real nice day.
Johnny G 27th January 2007, 19:12 I think if we all meet at Glendale HD at 9.00, ride up the 5 to the 118 go west to Morepark, go over the 23 to Fillmore, west on the 126 to Santa Paula and we Could stop and see the Oil Museum there, then ride up the 150 to Ojai and stop at the deer lodge for lunch. then go up around lake Casitas to Carpenteria and stop on main street and go to this nice Catina for a short stop. Then come down the 101 and stop at Ventura HD for a short break, then go to the rock store for a 1/2 hour or so and check out all the bikes and then for the final stop we go to the Sagebrush Catina in Callabassis. As long as we don't hang out to long at any of the stops we should be in Callabassis by 3 or 4 . This is a nice ride , some of you have been to most of these places. We could plan on the Sunday after the Superbowl. What do you all think.

That would be a fun deal! Would this be a Sat or a Sun? How many miles is that route you speak of?
Just wonderin'. Cuz I have been wanting to ride out that way for sometime now, so If its gunna be a Sat, maybe Ill get a room out there somewhere, and stay Sat night, ride home on Sunday. I think it is about 160 miles 1 way to Ventura from Hemet? It sure would be a drag ride home!
Besides, if the wife goes, We could take a scenic way home, if the weather is good.

I don't care Saturday or Sunday works for me. Lets see what everyone else has in mind. Some of the other So Cal group has done this ride before.
XLXR 28th January 2007, 04:46 Plan B. Tomorrow at 9 am I will walk outside and check the weather. At 9:01 I'll check here. If sun is shining and roads are dry, and somebody wants to do a ride on the south end of town, we'll meet up and go. I live 5 minutes from Cook's Corner, Mission Viejo.

Hell if it keeps raining like it has all day I might cruise the wave runner down that way in the morning. :laugh :laugh Nope it looks like I won't be going to far with the Sporty this weekend. :(
XLXR 28th January 2007, 17:36 It's plan B time, I'm leaving at 9:02. Barely a cloud to be seen.
Johnny G 28th January 2007, 17:42 Its raining like hell here at 8.20 am so no riding for me today.
Ivan 28th January 2007, 17:59 It's plan B time, I'm leaving at 9:02. Barely a cloud to be seen.
Sky is looking good here in Corona, and South. Want to meet at the Lookout and head South? There are some nice back-roads that make a loop thru Fallbrook. Not exactly canyon carving, but its a nice ride.
Prolly take me about 1/2 hr to get to the Lookout, I could leave here at 9...
XLXR 28th January 2007, 18:04 By Lookout, do you mean that small store on east side of Ortega, over looking the lake? 9:30 is good for me.
Ivan 28th January 2007, 18:12 By Lookout, do you mean that small store on east side of Ortega, over looking the lake? 9:30 is good for me.
Yup, that is the place. I think it is a restaurant. I'll see you there around 9:30...
XLXR 28th January 2007, 18:23 I just wanna ride.
Ivan 29th January 2007, 01:01 Well, that sure was exciting!
XLXR and I went to Fallbrook by way of DeLuz and Sandia Creek roads. Beautiful area with some twisty roads, but; the road surface has some very loose patches.
I found myself going a bit too fast in a turn that ended up tighter than I expected. I had the choice of leaning into the turn further (on a loose surface), or just standing it up and getting on the brakes, knowing that would take me off road. I chose the latter, once I hit the soft shoulder the front-end just washed out and I was down on the low-side. Coulda been much worse, was only going around 30 mph into the turn. I need to buy a new mirror and turn signal mount, and I now have a nice gnarly gouge on the corner of the front fender from where it dug into the dirt.
Lesson learned... I went into the turn too fast, given that I could not really see how tight it was. By the time I realized the score, I had two options, bad or worse. I'll be much more cautious going into blind turns for now on.
John's ride was not without some excitement as well. An out of control cager came across the center line into John's path. I was several hundred feet behind, I came around the turn just in time to see the driver skid off the road into a ditch with the brakes locked up. That was way too close. I sure have a lot of respect for John's riding ability, someone less skilled might have been plastered to that guy's bumper.
dashadow 29th January 2007, 02:15 A bunch of us took that route last year. It's a nice ride. Our trip was not nearly as exciting as yours was though. Sorry to hear about your off road experience, glad you're OK. Damn John, a cage coming my way with brakes locked up?? I think I'd have brown streaks in my boxers.
XLXR 29th January 2007, 02:33 Ivan, you took it like a champ. Scratched up one nice Sporty, but didn't shed a tear.
The only thing that saved me from that out of control idiot were those same rules I told you earlier: 1. Never ride faster than you can see. 2. Never ride over 80%. 3. Pick your line. 4. Always have enough left over to get out of the way of some stupid kid.
After that cager took his lane out of my side of the yellow line, I was afraid he'd get you. I am still horse from yelling at him.
You forgot to mention that Viper pick up. At the next stop sign, we pull over to the side of the road and this guy in a Dodge Viper pick up stops next to us. I looked at him and he just smiles, lights up both tires and leaves two long strips of rubber on the pavement.
Let's do it again next week.
doxbike 30th January 2007, 04:12 Sounds like you 2 had way too much fun last week-end. Hope you got the gremlins out of the way for awhile.
Keep posting and hopefully more of us can join you guys on the next ride.
Johnny G 30th January 2007, 04:20 It rained all weekend in Ventura so no riding for me but I am starting to look at next Saturday as a Pre Superbowl ride. Sorry to here about your sporty Ivan, OH! and by the way are you alright?
itsshemp 30th January 2007, 05:17 Wow! Glad ya didnt get hurt Ivan! Saved the tank too, it sounds like!?
Too bad your ride had to go that way! I have yet to be on that road, but I have heard it can be a little risky certain times of year.
Again, Im glad you are alright, and ya both survived!
Im hoping to get out this next weekend for some riding myself.
XLXR 30th January 2007, 05:33 Ivan - I just realized what you must have seen. I disappear around a corner, and then a cager in a 4 wheel slide pops out where I just went in. The road was great fun, it was the cazy people on it that made it interesting. I'm heading back next chance I get.
LDO 30th January 2007, 06:11 Someone say TT bar!? :D :D :D

Let me know when you take that loop out from Temecula, I'm in. Just give me a 'heads-up'. Saturday is best for me on a longer, all-day ride.
itsshemp 30th January 2007, 06:14 Will Do LDO! Saturday's would probably be better for me, for that ride also. Whenit comes up, Ill look at the Saturday's. Hopefully we can get a group to make that loop. It be good to ride with ya again! Its been a while!
Kelley 30th January 2007, 06:37 Let me know. If I don't have an appointment I'll be in. Been real busy selling security systems, just got back from southern San Diego, could see TJ from the two appointments today. Next couple of days rain in the forecast but Saturday looks like good weather. Dan, I could meet up w/ you in Hemet and head down to see Bob and do the ride. Bob, glad you're back in one piece from your little trip. This Saturday sounds like a time to get out and ride. Let me know if you want to do something local Dan. Steve you out there???
Glad everything is alright Ivan. Hope that paint job didn't get too scratched up.
LDO 30th January 2007, 06:46 Thanks,
yeah, the snow in Maryland sux.
As for the ride, absolutely,
I'm in.
itsshemp 30th January 2007, 15:03 Hey Kelly.
I dont think I can do that big loop this weekend, but I would like to do some riding for sure!
OF COURSE Sunday looks to be some NICE weather coming in for the Superbowl! Calls for low 70's here in H Town, and nice around the county. FIGURES!!
Saturday looks to be ok also. I could do a Saturday ride. Or even a Sunday Morn ride.
Maybe in a few weels, I post up for the big loop to San Diego I was thinking about. I just want to make sure the weather is nice, and I have all day to spend.
Kelley 30th January 2007, 16:47 Let's do something local, even if it's just to Tom's Farms or Temecula area.
Steve (82ndjumper) you out there??? LDO???
I'm "Jonsen" for a ride.
itsshemp 30th January 2007, 18:11 Let's do something local, even if it's just to Tom's Farms or Temecula area.
Steve (82ndjumper) you out there??? LDO???

Sounds good to me! Im down for a local ride this weekend. Toms would be cool. I have not been there in a while. There is also Quads on Saturday morning. Maybe meet LDO there, and go from there?
Kelley 31st January 2007, 01:56 See your other post.......:frownone
Ivan 1st February 2007, 02:21 Ivan - I just realized what you must have seen. I disappear around a corner, and then a cager in a 4 wheel slide pops out where I just went in. The road was great fun, it was the cazy people on it that made it interesting. I'm heading back next chance I get.
Yup, that shook me up more than my little mishap. About 12 seconds elapsed from the time I saw the cage plow into the ditch, until I saw you heading back towards me. Those were a long 12 seconds...
I wasn't hurt at all, just a bruised ego.
I'm willing to give that road another go, perhaps next weekend. This weekend is out because of the StuporBowl.
Johnny G 1st February 2007, 03:04 You Guys All SUCK!
itsshemp 1st February 2007, 04:36 You Guys All SUCK!

doxbike 1st February 2007, 04:53 You Guys All SUCK!
Wazzup with that?:frownthre
Kelley 1st February 2007, 04:56 Those knuckleheads from Ventura are just jealous.....:banadanc
Johnny's got some great riding areas up there but we don't get up there to ride w/ him enough.
dashadow 1st February 2007, 05:39 Wazzup with that?:frownthre
Johnny likes to ride, but he lives in Ventura. He gets down here as often as he can, and we even went up there once. He's just kidding us. I liked that ride through Ojai and Santa Maria. We should go visit Johnny again.
.
itsshemp 1st February 2007, 06:13 Im game for a visit out that way. I think someone just needs to make a date, far enough in advance, and make a group trip out there!
Johnny G 1st February 2007, 22:32 I was just kidding , Its my jealousy that made that come out.:smoke
XLXR 2nd February 2007, 03:54 Johnny G - Don't fret, I will get up there. Airhawk seat cushion and smoothe riding suspension makes it real nice on the highway. Just can't promise when.
