This was brought up recently and has me wondering, vote for your choice and thoughts, post per day can be seen by clicking on profile and lots of these high post are very informative to all of us not just jibberish.

If someone made 50 posts per day and they are all informative or helpful in some way or they are just simply participating in an ongoing conversation then that does not make them a "post whore".

A post whore will make pointless posts that are obviously only for the sake of raising their post count.

I reckon as long as we all get along who cares who has posted 4 thousand as opposed to say another who has posted only 100 posts does it really matter.
I say its the quality of the posts and the participation that makes it fun for all.
I reckon a postwhore is just someone tying hard to fit in. hence the excessive posting.

Personally I feel that a post whore is one who either says very little as in the archetypal I agree or what he said but posts a lot. Or alternatively one who says a lot and in effect is saying nothing of use at all. They just go on and on in a meaningless way that 9 times out of ten has no relevance or benefit to anyone. They seem to want to have an opinion on everything and no strong views about anything. You can actually read through a whole post and at the end of it wonder what was actually said, before the realisation that what was said could have been said in just a few words had it been worth posting in the first place.

You would think these people would learn after all the post whore threads and comments, but oh no on and on they go without the slightest care or concern. Why they feel that anyone would be in the least bit interested in reading line after line of meaningless drivel is beyond belief, but day after day they return to continue where they left off. It’s astounding that someone actually has the time or inclination to do this kind of thing; surely there is something better to do with your time than reply to often-meaningless threads with an even more meaningless post.

All I can say is I am so glad I am not one of those guys who can sit there typing away nonsense that is of no real concern to anyone else beside themselves. Takes long enough for me to type a few words that it would be senseless to waste valuable time replying to a thread just for the sake of replying and seeing my name in print. Sadly not everyone is like that some people will continue to post away like a maniacal monkey that’s just figured out how to use a typewriter but has no idea what the words mean.

What is wrong with these people that makes them think their uninformed and puerile chattering will be of interest to anyone but himself or herself? Do they have any friends? If they have I would have hoped that someone would have had the decency to tell them they are talking merde’. But oh no, day after day they appear like a mad stalker that just can’t give up even after the restraining order has been handed out.

They often use meaningless words. In certain kinds of writing, particularly in art criticism and literary criticism, it is normal to come across long passages which are almost completely lacking in meaning. Words like romantic, plastic, values, human, dead, sentimental, natural, vitality , as used in art criticism, are strictly meaningless, in the sense that they not only do not point to any discoverable object, but are hardly ever expected to do so by the reader. When one critic writes, “The outstanding feature of Mr. X’s work is its living quality,” while another writes, “The immediately striking thing about Mr. X’s work is its peculiar deadness,” the reader accepts this as a simple difference opinion.

If words like black and white were involved, instead of the jargon words dead and living, he would see at once that language was being used in an improper way. Many political words are similarly abused. The word Fascism has now no meaning except in so far as it signifies “something not desirable.” The words democracy, socialism, freedom, patriotic, realistic, justice have each of them several different meanings which cannot be reconciled with one another. In the case of a word like democracy, not only is there no agreed definition, but the attempt to make one is resisted from all sides. It is almost universally felt that when we call a country democratic we are praising it: consequently the defenders of every kind of regime claim that it is a democracy, and fear that they might have to stop using that word if it were tied down to any one meaning.

Words of this kind are often used in a consciously dishonest way. That is, the person who uses them has his own private definition, but allows his hearer to think he means something quite different. Statements like Marshal Petain was a true patriot, The Soviet press is the freest in the world, The Catholic Church is opposed to persecution, are almost always made with intent to deceive. Other words used in variable meanings, in most cases more or less dishonestly, are: class, totalitarian, science, progressive, reactionary, bourgeois, equality.

I suppose we will never get rid of them and they are here to stay. Fortunately there are others here like myself, who only uses the minimum of words to get a point across and would never dream of whoring in any way shape or form. And the last thing I would ever dream of doing is replying to a thread that was about such subjects as post whoring!

Who in their right mind would even bother doing that? Personally I have no idea, just seems like too much hard work for no gain.

I hope no one read all that shit! :p

I've been accused of being a post whore, a rep whore and I might as well go for a poll whore.
Like others have said, it's not the amount but the quality of post, lots of our high post count members are the most worth while post, give that some thought and you will see what I mean

Hey....how many "partners" does a girl / woman need before She is considered a Whore?:doh Is there a time limit between incidents?
I suppose multiple episodes in a single night might qualify? Why aren't men considered whores? We're considered Studs if we handle a couple "ladies" in one night.
If a person has multiple bikes....are they a Bike Whore:p :p

Seriously, it really doesn't matter.
People called me a post whore when I first joined here.
Oh well.

I simply enjoyed (and still do!) being a part of this great forum, and liked participating in discussions... even the silly ones.

I was also taking two online classes this past fall, and checking out the forum regularly was a nice break from studying. Regularly meaning 10+ posts a day easy. Now that is down to a few a day.

It is a forum. The whole idea is to participate.

If an individual is really concerned about labeling someone as a post whore, then maybe they have nothing better to do than label people and call them names. :p

In any gathering you will always have those who are more laid back than others as well as what we affectionately call motor mouths. Some will be articulate and knowledgeable while others are the class clowns. Some will tend to be negative and others yet will always find optimisim in every topic. Some will have nothing of value to say yet are compelled to be heard at every opportunity.

Some are philosophers. They will often dispense their own brand of wisdom and/or perspectives with humor whi;e others yet are cynics unable to see past their own realities.

Some like to stir the pot just to make things interesting. Some can't abide criticism or disagreemnt. Those are the ones that are easily provoked to insults and personal attacks while others seek out and welcome intelligent debate.

None are better or worse. We all come together to form the mix that creates our own particular soup (so to speak). That's what makes this forum so unique and a stand out among like forums.

IMO, I think the term "Post Whore" to be somewhat deragatory.

My idea of a "post whore" is someone who rarely has anything of value or originality to add. Where most posts will be

"+1"
"what s/he said"
or just one of the smiley faces.

That's okay once in a while. But I appreciate when people can participate and add an original thought most of the time.

This coming from the newbie here and doesn't know who posts what and how yet. So obviously not aimed directly at anyone here. Just my experiences from being on and moderating other forums.

Whores aren't compensated, and they usually don't give a damn about any sort of total count or numbers...
They just do it for the sheer unadulterated fun of it, and do it often.

Well, just in general, but not for that specific reason...
but if a post is quoted, it can't be removed by the originator of the quoted post.
As we know, the mods or admin can dissect posts and cut parts out or remove selectively...

Just going with the thread topic and giving my opinions...

I havn't read all of the posts but, I don't automatically consider someone who posts alot a post whore.

I've been here long enough to see a few individuals burst on the scene, post like crazy, (mostly off topic and personal problems) make quick friends and then crash and burn.

I guess they would be post whores despite the fact that posts in the off topic section don't count.

I have learned a few lessons in life and most were in kindergarden: One can never have too many friends, treat others as you would be treated, and always look for the 'good' in people because if you only look for the 'bad' your own life's views will be synical of others.
