as I saw 10 others just like it on the road :D

Shoulda made the poll a multiple choice.

I dig both the black and the olive color schemes.

Nice rear fender.

Did you ACTUALLY say that????

:doh :laugh

As I said in the nighster thread.

Jenn loves the Olive or the Suede blue.... and though I like them both, it would have to be Orange!!!!

(Seriously, if they don't release the XR, we might wind up with one of these to replace her 883L, but I'D still prefer an XR).

the color they don't have is all black denim. That's what I want. In lue of it, I'll take either vivid black or olive/black denim. The olive makes it look like a post WW2 bobber kinda bike. Very cool.

lol, what I meant it to mean was, I didn't want it turning into a debate about it's parts, or it's looks. I wanted it to stay a color thread. I have to stop coming on here so late (and before bed)...my threads might make more sense.

With that said, all black, FTW!!!!:clap

I like the Silver and Black, because it mirrors the engine with the "Silverish/ Chrome" rocker box covers. Now if the rocker boxes were black then it would be a different story. Oh yeah, if I had a denim paint scheme, I would have to get some denim side covers.

Nah, you can get TOO black.

I recently started to notice it on the Guzzi.

You have to have some contrast.

I like the rocker boxes as they are on this model, but I definitely like the black with the silver bottom as it comes on the 883R.

Crusin_w00kie

Right, all the "big" bikes are 6 speeds. (dyna, sloptail, geezer glide are all 6 spd) The XL still uses a 5 spd.

Hmm...none that I know off. I know for the 03 and older bikes, Baker made a 6spd tranny for them. Otherwise all XL's are still 5 spd. I'd go back and double check that puppy.

I gotta stick with all black or the olive/black denim. The black and silver looks to much like a 100th anniversary to me and there are too many of those on the road now.

Blackcherry and black denim or black pearl and black denim might be nice!

The olive/black looks awesome. It does look very 'military' - in a good way; sort of like the WLA from WWII. The olive doesn't look good at all on most of the other models. I think its the blacked out furniture that makes it look great on this one.

I would probably go with the black & orange, but the black and olive is cool too.
and of course all black is not to be missed..
argh.. I'm spoiled for choice! :D
only things I would change if I got a nighster would be the pegs (I'm too tall for centered pegs) the bars (dragbars baby!) and if possible I would get rid of the rubber covers on the shocks (purely a vanity thing..)
but the real question then is, is it stil a Nightster? :)

I feel like I need to see the blue one up close and personal, as that's the color I thought I wanted.

Saw an orange one yesterday and its very cool, actually. Didn't expect to be so attracted to the orange and black one.
I was shown another bike in the shop that is *supposedly* the blue color, but it didn't really look like the H-D pic that it shows on my screen.
Its more of a slightly greenish light blue, like seawater almost.
Nice, but not quite what I thought.
However, the guy said outdoors in direct sun, it looks brighter.
::shrug:: dunno.....

hope to see more colors soon.
I didn't hate the orange.

one more thought, get the black and then get some tasty orange pinstriping done. Could be done without disassembling the bike probably or removing the fenders/tank. What would REALLY be cool is to get a thin orange stripe going around the rim, like I think the old "Sturgis" model used to have.

Vivid Black. It always looks right on a Harley.

Although, the Blue/black would look real retro with some VonDutch pinstriping and whitewall tires...

Orange/black and Olive/black probably look good. Just not my style.

A couple of seasons down the road I believe the flat bikes will need repaint.

its not a PIA to clean because you can't even wax it, as far as the fading goes...:dunno the dealer says "it's designed to age" I think they mean it's going to fade and need to be repainted.

I like the Nightster, but for me black is the only color that looks right. Personally, I think it would look better all black (forget the stripe and name on the tank). Just black. Everyone knows its a Harley anyway. Not putting the name on would be really cool. Who's ever done that before?? Kind of like the Beatles with the White Album :rockband

I bought the Black/Silver color and had to trailer it home due to the snow that we got the other day. Well it wasn't an enclosed trailer, and I only had to go 3 miles. But by the time I got her home and into the garage she was really dirty from the road spray and salt. She cleaned up nicely and I was impressed how easily the finish is to clean. I wouldn't call it a flat finish as it has some smooth kind of shine to it. Im wondering what a product like armour all would look like or do to it? I might test a small area on the fender and see how it looks. I love the wider front tire and the gators on the front forks, it makes the bike look really beefy.

LilHog59

OK today I used a product called Protect All (blue can spray on) on the silver/black nightster finish and it looks really good. It puts a real nice protective shine on the bike. It's a spray on, buff off type of protectant with carnuba wax and it works very well on the nightster. I'm really starting to like this duller type of finish that this bike has on it. With the protect all on the bike it looks like a satin finish. Nice.............:D

The olive/black is the color I originally wanted when I went to my local dealer. They had no olive/black scheduled, but every other color coming in and a silver/black on the floor. I was kind of torn between the silver/black and olive/black. I asked the salesman if I could switch my deposit over to a silver/black one if I liked that color better, and he said no problem, as long as one's available. I haven't seen either in person, but I'm pretty sure I'll be going with the olive. The ship date is May 11th and I can't wait. I've already started buying goodies for the bike. Well I've already got the stage one done on the bike prior to delivery, but the scremin eagle mufflers are not to my liking. They sound good but just not loud enough for me. I purchased a new pair of rush mufflers off e-bay and I installed them today, much better sound. I also plan to do progressive 412 rear shocks and front springs and a two up seat, maybe a badlander or something similar and a minirail backrest and pad. thats about it. How about you, what do you have planed and what have you gotten so far? How about your exhaust and intake mods...?

kenfm2000
25th March 2007, 05:57
The color is a funny thing. The dealer here so far has had two silver and blacks, one orange and black and one vivid black. The silver and blacks sold first, I bought one of them. Then the orange and black sold. There the vivid black one still sits after at least 3 weeks. They even went as far as switching out the handlebars with ape hangers and put on forward controls and it is still sitting there. I still feel when you are seeing them in person and not relying on the photos the vivid black would have a much smaller percentage than is reflected in this poll. The matte colors just really seem to fit on this bike.

Oly_Nightster
25th March 2007, 06:11
That is the weirdest thing kenfm2000. Where I live they had two silver and blacks, one was bought before I got there and the other I bought. They now have a vivid black that has been there for a while and has ape hangers and a brawler seat. Do you live near Olympia, WA or is this just a freaky coincidence?

kenfm2000

What I thought was wild too was when the silver and black and orange and black models were in the showroom They really caught my eye as soon as I walked in. The vivid black one took me a few minutes to locate in the showroom today.

Oly_Nightster

I totally agree with you. The black one is nice but it hides with all the rest of the sportsters, the flat paint really stands out. Weird coincidence though, they even put the vivid black one right in front of the front desk inside the front door. Still no luck selling it just yet.

How about you, what do you have planed and what have you gotten so far? How about your exhaust and intake mods...?

So far I've bought passenger pegs, Dyna highway pegs, Looking at 2 up seats. I think that eventually I'll change the intake to something with a more classic look, like the dragtron 1. I really like the style of the stock pipes, and I work nights, so I don't really want to piss off the neighbors with some really loud ones. I want to put a leather tool pouch on the left side swing arm and maybe one on the forks too. Or maybe one at the bottom of the down tubes. Oh yeah, a new helmet to go with the old school look of the bike. I like the look of these, what do you think?

Those helmets are pretty sweet, the goggles are awesome too. That second link has one with a matte black finish and a silver stripe on the top, that'd look cool on my bike. I have to try things on first though so that would be tough. The seat on mine is stock. When I replace i'm either going with the HD brawler or the Corbin Hollywood, sat on the brawler at the dealership and loved it but I love the Hollywood too.

Which model Mustang solo? I'm thinking of getting one. Is it the standard or wide? It looks like the standard. I imagine the wide would look too wide on a sporty, wouldn't it?

tzinsli
1st April 2007, 03:58
The seat is the standard size. I think the wide might look too big for the bike. The seat feels a bit higher and futher back than the stock. I'm 6'1" so that with the addition of the forward controls makes for a very comfortable ride. The forward controls are chrome but will probably have them powder coated later this year.
I'm very happy with the Rush slip ons. I got them with the 2" baffle. Wouldn't want them any louder..

I'm only 5'6''. How much does it push you back? I like forward controls too, but couldn't have my legs stretched more than an inch from where they are. I also love the height of the stock seat and I wouldn't want to raise up any more than that. I'm thinking of having a skirt made for the stock seat that looks just like yours. I like that look.

tzinsli
1st April 2007, 04:30
The seat is a Mustang Vintage solo. You can see it on Ebay. It feels like it sets me back about an inch.. Its got more padding than the stock seat and it also gets rid of that space between the seat and tank.

The black looks cool too. Here's the order I like best: black/green, black/grey, black, black/blue, black/orange. All of these colors look much better in person than in HD's photos. My last bike was gloss black, so I was ready for a change.

Wow, the blue doesn't look half bad after all!

Folks -

Took the plunge and put $ down on a BLUE, yes BLUE, nightster - without ever seeing it in person... Was initially concerned that it looked as others have said -- a bit 'feminine'!

What sold me was seeing a vivid black/blue suede pearl in person on a Sportster 883C -- guys, the blue is the same blue suede pearl that's on any other Harley with the same color scheme, and it's alot more silvery-blue in person (the nightster pic on the site is much more powder-electric blue).

Check out the attached pic -- this 883C has the same colors, but the photo looks quite different from the Nightster Blue pic.

Just a FYI for those who are considering Blue as their choice!

You know, I wanted a blue as well but when I saw it in person I thought it lacked something.

Tonight I just noticed what was wrong...

On the HD photo, which is my background right now, they show just blue and black. At the dealer, the blue and black is seperated by a third color...kind of sand/tan like. That's what made me not like it.

But still...tempting...

Ahhh crap. You're right. You and I have the same image as our desktop backgrounds -- on the harley image, there's a line of black, and then another line of the blue, before it hits the vivid black on the tank bottom portion.

On the video that someone posted a link to earlier, you can clearly see the tan line you're talking about. Have to see if I can get my deposit put on another color --

Either that, or I could see about getting the tan line painted over a different color -- thoughts?
