I have a question, What is Harley Davidson doing? Are they trying to destroy the Brand? I was at a quick mart and there on the shelf was Harley Davidson Beef Jerky. How far is that from the core business of HD? I thought all the clothes and HD junk at the Dealers was pushing it, but at least it was at the Dealerships. Are they really trying to sugar coat the Brand until it loses it's tough hard core appeal? If they keep going this direction they will become a cartoon character of their former self. And when the faithful are gone be right back were they were in the 70's and 80's.

Tough, hard core, Harley? not since before the 80's (if not earlier).

Harley learned a long time ago that there are more Sheep with credit than Wolves with cash. Harley could stop making bikes and it would still be a profitable company. If you don't believe that look at Von Dutch fashion trend or the fact that Indian (in all it's permutations in the last 10 years) made more from licensing it's name to clothing, etc. than it did from building motorcycles.

The appeal for a lot of people is that HD is a cartoon character. 9 out of 10 Harleys I am sure barely make 1000 miles a year. They are a trophy for those people.

The funny thing is that the typical Sportster fan does not fall into that 9 out of 10 category. To be a Sportster rider/owner (and be satisfied) takes a dedicated person. A person with self-confidence and self-esteem. Much more than a typical factory big twin owner has.
