King Norre 2nd February 2007, 13:25 Hi y'all,
I just passed my theoretical exam for my motorcycle driver's license today.
Shopping time :) I'm sure I'll find a lot of usefull information on this side.
One of the bikes I'm considering buying is a sportster (XL883R or XL1200 Roadster). The other ones are Triumph Bonneville and Triumph Speedmaster ... don't shoot :shhhh
I'm going to check 'em out this weekend. I know it will be hard to get any "uncolored" information about how these bikes compare, but if you have experience with both brands I'd love to hear about your experience.
Ciao,
King Norre
Brad 2nd February 2007, 13:28 Welcome to the forum. The only Triumph I ever had was a Spitfire, so I can't help you much with that. I looked at some of the new Triumphs and like them. Hey, as long as it's got 2 wheels (or three) it's cool with me!

nauroc 2nd February 2007, 14:18 Hi from wales had a Triumph Thunderbird ledgend a couple of years ago not a bad bike but not as much character as the Sportster IMHO
snowman 2nd February 2007, 14:46 Welcome to the forum from Michigan!!!:banawala
I've had sporties and metrics. Had a 650 bonneville a million years ago so that won't count. Sporties just have more character, IMHO...........:geek:geek:geek

omahariveland 2nd February 2007, 16:38 Welcome aboard, visit often! Good luck with your decision, I was deciding between a Bonneville and a Sportster last year. I like them both but decided that parts and wrenching advice for a sporty is going to be easier plus I have friends who are very happy with their Harleys so I went with the Sporty. I say that if you're here you've already come close to making your decision. You really can't go wrong with the Sporty!
There was a thread a couple days ago addressing your question, you might check it out if you haven't already...

Snuffy 2nd February 2007, 17:23 Welcome to the Forum from Middle Tennessee, Defeated Creek, Difficult and Hoggtown. Did the same thing you are doing and I settled on the Sportster. Biggest issue was power and reliablity. Althought the new Triumphs are 100% better than the old and they rate their scooter at 62 hp more than an 883 andclose to the new rubbermounts in the stock form. When I tried out both bikes Harley had more scoot and more power for passing. Maintenence is also a huge factor. Harley beats Triumph hands down. Not taking anything away from Triumph as I still would like to have an American. They are beautiful bikes and no one beats their 2 vertical piston classic look. Resale, Harley you can't beat compare used to used.

Good luck with your decision. Ain't it fun shopping?
Todd31de 3rd February 2007, 03:00 Nothing wrong with the Triumph. Great bike. Just make sure your dealer will still be selling them in the future. Can't beat the Sportster for parts and service availablity. Also it has better resale value.
