Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm replacing my busted fatbob tank, the one w/ the console, for a slightly smaller smooth top. Now I have no speedo. I would like to go to a digital speedo or speedo/tack set to put on the handle bars. Can anyone suggest a good one/set?

Thanks in advance!

I also have the dakota digital and it works good. They have new ones out now that have more features packed into them(unfortunately I don't think all the features work with the sporty setup) and they are cheaper than the old ones.

I have been looking a those also, I have an 03 1200 with the stock speedo and tach. Is it a tough job to convert over to one of these Dakota Dig models? Or just a simple plug in?

I am not sure how tough it is, I think it is just a matter of changing the sender unit in the tranny. Dakota Digital is definately the standard for the industry.

94's still have the mechanical speedo driven off the front wheel. 95 they went over to electronic speedo's thus having the tranny speed sensor.

You guys are great! thanks for all the advice! I checked out dakota digital but i think they are out of my price range. The new baby is kinda limiting my funds LOL. So it looks like I'm going to go w/ a standard speedo.

If you want a more compact speedo but cant afford the dakota digital you could always try one of these:
Only thing with this one is it says you will have to forfeit your self cancelling turn signals.

There are other smaller speedo's and tachs if your looking for a more compact setup

Now this is really going the cheap route but I have seen guys use a bicycle speedometer set up to run a very Spartan, very small but still working speed indicator. A pick up is placed on the wheel and another on the fork leg. The wire is then run up the fork leg to the Speedometer itself which is very small and can be mounted anywhere and if your really crafty can be made so it doesn't look too hokey.

Just some thoughts buddy...
