View Full Version : New Buell --- leaning away from the XR...

I liked the Ulysses, but this new Buell is a little more sporty. If they can make this for an MSRP of $10K, then the XR *should* sell for 8 or 9, notice I said should, not will....

The Buell TT looks like a supermotard, flattracker, hooligan bike. 400 pounds dry and 103 HP. Long travel suspension for the crappy windy roads around here. Looks like a LOT of fun...

If I were young enough to handle the seating position and a good enough rider to take advantage of the chassis I'd lean toward it too. I'd also say it's a LOT more sporty!

As it is I'm old and old school!

The bike doesn't appeal to me; however, that front brake caught my attention. It sure is an eye full. I can see where the added leverage would really increase the stopping power. I find it interesting that with that style of front brake they didn't have to install dual brakes on the front.

I LOVE the new Buells.

Not the look of em, though this one is really growing on me, but the handling.

And the riding position is a LOT more upright than you'd think (well, depending upon your size).

They fit me GREAT at 5' 11" (I always say I'm 5' 10" but the nurse said differently last week, I gotta double-check her).

Anyway, if you're taller, I heard the Buellyssess has a more upright position.

This new TT version is pretty upright as well, has a motocross/supermotard style handlebar. Longer wheelbase like the Ulysses too. I'm 6'4 and the other XB Buells are just too tiny for me. Same for the Sporty really, but I do like the classic bikes. I sat on a new XL1200R the other day, and it felt pretty good. Hoping the XR1200 will fit taller riders better too, but this new TT Buell sure sounds like it would be a great bike for blasting around town and on curvy roads that aren't perfectly smooth. I like the looks of the standard Sportster and the XR better than the Buells, but the performance is hard to ignore. The look is kind of growing on me.

So, I had this nice message all written and linked up telling you that motorcycle-usa.com has a great writeup from their test ride of the Super TT. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to post links to outside sites yet because I have not been active enough.

Anywho . . . Head over to Motorcycle USA for a good read.

I really hope Buell/The Motor Company has one of these available to demo at Bike Week in March.

That style of Buell just isn't for me...I like the XB12R, and that's about it...if I wanted a bike with a more "relatively" upright riding position, I'd opt for a Ducati S2R 1000, with a full Arrow exhaust and PC III...or maybe one of those KTM Super Dukes...but not that Buell...just too fugly for me...

I checked out the TT at the IMS in NYC (how's that for some abbreviations? :D )

I liked it as it is somewhat like a larger version of the CityX with a few tweaks. The riding position isn't all that much different than my standard Sporty and felt very comfortable.

The stock seat really has to go though. Since it is a single seat (that seems to be large enough for 2-up), Buell has a discalimer printed right on the top of seat warning against riding 2-up.

This really is impressive. To get MPG of 48/65 with that much HP. Most of those in-line 4 bikes get no where near this.

I've always felt that Buells are underappreciated. From every test I've every read they handle great and they've got all the power where most people actually use it. The problem is that most Harley guys say they're UJMs (which is dumb beyond comprehension) and the Sportbike guys say they're really Harleys. :frownthre

They will when not ridden by high school kids after their graduation kegger. The Buell gets good mpg for the same reasons - properly tuned engine, light weight, and a tiny frontal area.

Not ragging on the Japanese inline 4's, but I'm surprised. I thought they typically got lower, like 30-40 mpg, not 50-60.

But I haven't owned one in more than a decade, and even then it wasn't a true sportbike, it was more of a UJM.

How's your Busa do?
