I was drooling over the desktop on my laptop (which is a factory image of the XR1200) and something occurred to me that was encouraging.

I started to notice a few parts and styling similarities between the 1200N and the XR1200.

They share a couple of parts.

1. Foot pegs with the feelers
2. Black turn signals
3. Black mirrors
4. Brushed aluminum dipstick - though the surround is drilled.
5. Rear reflectors (looks like the single reflector hanging under the 1200N is the same as the two used on the back of the XR1200, one on each side)

I forget, but was the oil tank cover flat black on the 1200N also?

It helps to further show how these bikes were both in development at the same time, using new production parts.

I like both these bikes the more I look at em...

And I'm convinced I want the XR!!!

I'd settle for either Kev. Let's hope the XR will be a surprise launch this year in the U.S.

I HIGHLY doubt it... I'm hoping for January 08...

Agreed. The 1200N was this year's surprise for the USA.

My guess is that you'll see the XR go to Europe late 2007, and 6 months to a year later it will be available here in limited quantities......

in limited quantities......

:(

MoCo would just be limiting their profits.

Or maybe not, depending on what they get for it.

Oh well, I have every confidence they'll do what's best for....

H-D stockholders. :doh

And all is as it should be in the wonderful world of capitalism. :)

Are you kidding? Do you think HD would do something that makes sense and put Denim side covers on the denim bikes. That would be giving away $170.00!!! They are Vivid Black on all of the models.

May have been easier for the N to be developed with XR parts sitting on the shelf. It's a win for the MoCo with higher volume of parts used.

Yes they are similair, but then again they are two different machines if you put them side by side. Ones more sport riding, and the other is more for cruising.

XR
different Suspension wise, upside down forks, better adjustments (hopefully) on shocks and 180 tire for the XR
cafe style rear fender
Aluminum swingarm
lower profile tires
dual canister exhaust
dual brakes up front

THAT WAS MY POINT.

That they were both in development at the same time, AND they're already looking at the efficiency of some shared components.

I'm an optimist.

Of course they are more different than similar, but that would be the point in having both in the lineup!

And it is those differences that make me want an XR over a 12N

that dealers are longing for the good ol' days when they could charge over MSRP because you had to wait for bikes. I think that is what you will see with the XR. Long waits, over MSRP, drool, drool!

Nope, not at my dealer.

I already spoke to him about getting the first one (in Orange) and he's ALWAYS sold at MSRP.

Actually even back in the day he never took a deposit for a bike that hadn't already been put into the production schedule. So he never took deposits for more than 3 months (a business quarter) at a time. He'd let the serious riders among his customers (or that wanted to be) know ahead of time what day he would take deposits and we'd wait out all night like for concert tickets, then go in and give him our deposit when he opened in the morning.

That's weird, I just noticed the foot peg thing while re-reading the CW nightster article the other night, then I see this post today.
Lets hope they put those new pegs to better use than just a lowered (but good lookin') cruiser. And SOON!
