I dropped some loctite gel on my just-painted fuel tank. Does anybody know how to clean it without damage (on the fuel tank, I mean).

Thanks guys.

Maybe acetone, but I would try it on an under side area of the tank or seat, and then a small amount to see if it damages. The loctite might have already caused some discoloration. Do not use goo-be-gone or goop, I did once and it does discolor. Thus far I've not had any problems with acetone or isopropyl alcohol, but I have not used them on loctite. Immediately wash and wax the area after cleaning.

loctite us an acrylic adhesive the solvent is similar to that used for super glue (cyanoacrylic) you can get the locktite solvent at autozonenapaadvanced or you might try a hobby shop -- on the other hand the clear coat or paint may also be acrylic try some place hidden first. You might have to blocksand -- bummer, but that is the best advice I can think of

Any high dollar paint job with a with good clear coat used with
enough hardener in it will with stand a little loctite spilled on it.

I stopped at the gas station the other day and over flowed the
gas on fillup :smackh and i cringed as i watched the over flow
run down my HIGH DOLLAR PAINT JOB :wtf

So any good paint will standup to a little locktite!!!!!! :xlrocks

Try calling the manufacturer ... they know the chemical makeup of their products best and could offer suggestions. Good luck.

or go to the Locktite website and find the data sheets that have everything chemically known about the product and even who to call if you happen to drink a gallon of it by accident.

"Good morning, poison control. Can I help you?"

"Yes I, I...I have an emergency!!!"

"Calm down sir and tell me what the problem is."

"I'm having trouble breathing"

"Sir, please try to remain calm and explain what happened."

"It's ummm...loctite"

"Ahhh yes...you drank some?"

"No"

"Ok, you got some in your eyes?"

"No"

"Are you choking on the little bottle?"

"No, No, nothing like that"

"Well sir, tell me what the emergency is"

"I ummm....I...."

"Yes?"

"I dripped it on my sporty gas tank"

".......and?"

"That's it...I dripped it on my gas tank"

"Well, sir, that hardly constitutes an emergency."

"But you don't understand. IT COULD LEAVE SPOTS IN THE PAINT!!!"

"Oh my gosh, you're right!!! Just sit tight sir, I'm putting a call into the emergency response team right now...and the police, and the coast guard, and the military. They should be there to help you very soon"

"Oh...thank you"

"Don't worry, everything's gonna be just fine. Is there someone you can call to stay with you?"

"Well, I dunno, I ..."

"Nevermind, I'll stay on the line with you until they arrive."

"Ok"

Yes. Perfect finish, the painter did it in less than 15 minutes.

Locktite is notorious for eating paint. It is highly chemically active and when it sets it takes even stronger solvents to remove. It will leave a stain after it is removed. I'm afraid you may be ewscrayed on this one. Another thing to NEVER let touch your paint is brake fluid.
