Geek 26th March 2005, 05:10 Not sure about the primary cover but Wet Dreamz makes custom pipes. We have a member here who has them on his but I can't remember who.
Broncodog 26th March 2005, 05:10 Welcome to the forum soulshaker, don't have an answer for ya, but I'm sure someone will chime in!
soulshaker 26th March 2005, 05:13 hey u guys r all right thanxxxxs
rottenralph 26th March 2005, 05:18 I don't think it is possible with the sporty because the trany takes its lube from the primary. I don't know of any mod that can solve that problem but a little redneck engineering might solve this problem as well. Probably won't work though.

Welcome to the XL Forum!!!
The question of the open primary comes up every few months. I don't think we have ever found a very good solution. There isn't much available and what is available is very expensive. I've also never heard wht you do with the transmission, since it shares oil with the primary. I'd imagine that you have to plug that up, but then how would you change the transmission oil???
There is this German company (http://www.ride-inn.de/start.html) that makes one. Click on parts, then belt drive for sportster buell. I'm not sure what it costs, on the old site MissyD said it was around 2500 Euros. I have a hard time navigating their site since it's all in German.

Click me too !!! (http://www.ride-inn.de/presse/roadst_us.html)
These guys (http://www.simonsperformance.com/proprimary/proprimary.html) sell primary plates for sportster belt drive primarys. But it's a grand for just the primary plate. They don't appear to sell the whole primary kit though.

mikeLI_77 26th March 2005, 07:03 i asked my indy about doing this. he told me i would have to plug up the holes that let the oil feed from the primary into the transmision and he also told me it would be hard to find an open primary meant for my bike. I really don't remember what else he told me and i don't want to guess and be wrong so i'll end it with this. His last words were "It's not really worth it" but if you like it try it. I thought it would look cool but for the amount of work and price of it, I'll live with what i got.
dwardy 26th March 2005, 12:45 OK...enough of the nice....let 'im have it boys!!!
;)
Moonpie 29th March 2005, 14:06 You can run an open primary but there is alot to do. The German company apparently did all the leg work and R&D, so that is where the price comes from.
BUT, you can always cut off your tranny section, plug the necessary holes and buy/rebuild a 4/5 speed tranny. Then we can talk about mounting that bitch in a frame!
Bottom line, it can be done, but it is gonna cost you!
Would probably be easier to, forgive me folks, buy a BT.

I agree. I f you like getting your pantleg chewed off or worse with an open primary, have at it. But for a Sporty it's really more trouble and expense than it is worth.
voneville 23rd April 2005, 02:23 Got to admit though, that german set up looks the business. Got any german friends to navigate the site? I've had lots of luck with the altavista babelfish program. I also own a kawasaki w650, and almost everything aftermarket for my bike is either german or french...
lucky13 4th May 2005, 06:49 I used to run the samson bone shakers on my 883. They are made for big twins (evos) but they'll fit on a sporty, if it's an evo. The exhaust ports are in the same position, the pipes just stick out a bit more. they won't work with mid controls and there are no support brackets for them but they're so short you won't need em'. After I did a frame swap to a rigid paughco I changed pipes cause all the hard beatin' on the road w/ no suspension I cracked the front pipe at the factory weld. If your runnin in a frame with suspension the pipes would work pretty good though, they did for me. You'll find the cheapest at jireh cycles under 300. look em up on the web. As for me I went for some cheapo drags for 40$ can't beat em.
Mnemonic 4th May 2005, 23:07 I have the WetDreamz pipes...
