Hi, everybody. I've been lurking on the boards for a couple of months now, and have found a great deal of useful information here.
I purchased my brand new, cobalt blue xl1200c back in December. I have ridden other brands of motorcycles, but I've always wanted to get a Harley "someday". I have to admit that I had just a twinge of buyers remorse about not shelling out an extra few thousand bucks on a big-twin up until I actually tried out a Softail Heritage Classic (88 cubic inch engine) and a Dyna Glide (96 cubes). I'm currently riding the Softail as a loaner bike and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that it's like trading in a Porshe for a station wagon. (Is it because it's been thrashed by the customers, or are all stock big twins actually that slow?) Really, the only thing about the Softail that I prefer is the comfortable seat.
My bike is currently in the shop with a screaming eagle air filter installed, but waiting for it's new pipes to be delivered (a D&D two into one system). I had ordered Rinehart two into one pipes through the dealership, but, unfortunately, the guy at the parts counter failed to inform me that those pipes don't work with forward controls. Oh well! One more day and I should have my new, improved, even faster Sporty back home where it belongs. Sweet!
I have big plans to improve my bike. Ultimately, I would like to get a kit to bore out the cylinders to 88 cubic inches, but this will have to wait a couple of years since the dealer informed me that it will void the warranty on the engine. In the meantime, I have had the dealership install a Screaming Eagle Race Tuner. My probable next performance upgrade will be new cams and an adjustable ignition module.
My only complaint so far, is that my Sporty appears to have become a black hole sucking in all of my spare cash. I wish I were a better mechanic so I didn't have to rely on the dealership as much.
(Hmmm....how should I spend my next paycheck, on a new seat....maybe some chrome doo-dads....???)
LOVE MY SPORTY!!!

PS. Once I get my bike back, I'll have to post a pic!
