View Full Version : Example of why it is so important to fill out your profile page

I just thought I'd say this. I have always been an advocate for filling out the profile page on any forum you frequent, and here is an exellent example why:

I recently posted some items for sale on Ebay and gave the forum here a heads up. An indivdual then bought a piece via "Buy it now" and all was happy. I sent him a notification e-mail via ebay that it would be a couple days before I could send it out due to the weather. He sent me one back saying that was fine and mentioned that he is a forum member, ____ . Anyway I look up his profile and notice the year of sportster he has is incompatible with the part he just bought,so I sent him a PM via the forum asking if the part was for his bike and explained it wouldn't fit. So he then sent me one back and said it was for his bike, etc. and after a few more PMs we reached a verdict and I sent his money back and will re-post the part, no harm done on either side. And to think how ugly things could've gotten had he not filled out that page, huh?

You can get your fees back if you do an unpaid item dispute and pick the mutually agreed box for the reason.

It's also a good reason just for asking & answering tech questions. You would be surprised how often questions are answered incorrectly because the person answering has a different year/model than the asker.

Yeah, I just figured to do what I would have wanted on the flip-side. The best part is that I re-listed the item last night and when I checked my account today it had already sold for the same price. So I figure I wasn't out much. Gots me some rep for it though :D !

Like stepping aboard the wrong boat and "fixing" the right component. And yes, it HAPPENS!
