has or had anyone out there have troubles with there 1990 sportster trans. jumping out of gear? i got this bike new, pulled the trans twice in the last 3 years. this time i have a broken cam follower (but i know this is not the main problem) .for the last 3 years it is very hard to hit second gear. so hard that i have broken 2 shift levers!! now i have checked everything out and i mean everything. gear shifter cam, pawl carrier support ext. the dealer(h-d) said they want me to buy all new gears...$567.09 i c very little if any wear at all on the gears. i think the gear shifter forks r binding. but i c NO wear.i have @#$%^&* with this trans. i really feel this was a poor design (and there is other 1990 883 bikes with the same problem) or is there some thing out of speck that i am not cing?? if u know it would b priceless to me!! p.s. could someone tell me how to put a pic. of my bike on the form everytime when :cry1 i write something like i c others do. it is not when u get there it is what u get there on (chopped sportster springer 22" over for life)

SoulShaker, Iv had my 1990 883 from new and hav never had a prob as you describe on mine and its done 60 odd thou k's. Iv been told that these 4 speed boxes a built tough and the only week part is the shifter mechs.
Braken shift levers tryn to change gears OUCH... somethin def bindin there...
Id never go to a stealer, find a shop that builds performance engines and they should be able to help....
Postin and image, Iv tried to load photos up ta the gallery with no joy, so I went to www.photobucket.com and ya get a free album area to load any type of picture, once loaded copy the IMG url and paste it into your message or your signature them same as mine and bob's your uncle...

I've had problems down shifting on my 90 sporty from day one. Broke 2 cam followers before 8000 miles. The last time I ordered the steel one from Drag Specialties(part #DS194225)replaces HD#34063-84b. Shifts smooth as silk now. Plus this one is about 50 times stronger then the pot metal one from HD, so I don't have to worry about it breaking again. I am sure this is not all of your problem, but it can't hurt to try it next time you put it together.
