View Full Version : Newbie asking for Advise
flcruzr 19th February 2007, 03:18 Hello Everyone! I am new to your Forum, I'm in the market for my first Harley and I cant wait to make a purchase and become a Harley owner. I'm interested in the entry 883 Sportster. I'm looking for a reliable ride for daily commute. Can anyone give any advise as far as bike prices at the dealers? I have noticed that Harley Dealer prices are higher than the listed MSRP's. The other brands honor the MSRP prices on their bikes, why is this? Also, is there a haggling cushion with the dealers? I'm looking to purchase a 2007. I prefer new but might consider a 2006. Any Advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wildchild 19th February 2007, 03:35 I assume you mean "basic." We were at the dealer today and the one that stood out in price for me was a new 2006 883R for less than 7 grand. If I had the cash, I would've thought about it. BTW, welcome to the forum, you'll like it here and learn a lot. Good luck with your bike purchase, I guarantee you'll love your Sportster!
spatial.hd 19th February 2007, 03:37 :welcome to the forum! There was a similar question just a couple days ago. Do a search for MSRP and it should come up. Best of luck getting a great deal on your new Sporty!
Rascal 19th February 2007, 03:41 Sit on various models, test drive them if you can, go with what your gut instints tell you is right for you. Good luck with the new bike purchase and welcome to the forum.
leo 19th February 2007, 03:43 welcome to the forum...
it really depends on the dealer or salesperson on prices.
good luck.

Prices vary from dealer to dealer. Best to shop around. I have seen bargains on new 06's still in inventory. Set up fees, shipping, etc, also varies widely from dealer to dealer. Happy hunting and good luck with your sportster.

74cixl 19th February 2007, 13:57 Do not pay over msrp which is listed on the moco website, some dealers charge freight and set up fees which shouldnt be over $600 or so and often you can negotiate on these fees, good luck
Matt 19th February 2007, 18:59 Welcome from GA! Sales tax will kick your butt too. Don't fall for the 10% down 72 month deal. Total cost will be shocking and you'll be way upside down if the market softens as many on the forum predict.
Matt
g-ray 19th February 2007, 19:06 Welcome from California. Negotiate those "extra" charges! What happens is you get excited and start picturing yourself riding that beautiful machine home. Don't weaken like I did. You must be strong, man!
jprior 19th February 2007, 19:18 I advise you to trust your instincts when speaking with several dealerships. You should not pay over MSRP. That is the best advice I can give on this subject. ;)
Terp84Alum 19th February 2007, 19:23 Do not pay over MSRP. Find a 2006 and get a deal. As for the bike model, get want feels right and has the look you want. Good luck and, oh yeah, welcome to the greatest forum.
Sojourner 19th February 2007, 19:37 Welcome from Washington State. I love my 883C which I purchased in June. Already have 7000 miles on the OD. I have traveled cross state several times, through the mountains, and droned down the freeways for endless hours. Ive also done some two up riding as well. Point is the 883 is a great all arounder. If you have more than one dealership in your area make sure you let them know that you are shopping around. This could save you several hundred dollars when it come time to purchase.

As far as paying over MSRP? All the dealerships we had visited here in TX at one time were once charging over MSRP. Many now are at least down to MSRP on most models. Rather than wait or get a used one we purchased from a dealership in Milwaukee and used a motorcycle transport trucking company to ship down to us. The price we paid for shipping was less than the upmark on the pricing here. So look for dealerships that are in driving distance. If not then order from another dealer and have it shipped.
