Without a ride right now:frownone , but looking here before I leap. A lot of good info here to sift through. I'm lucky to live in a part of the state where there are hills and curves in the country with little or no traffic. I put about 2500 miles a year when I had my last bike mostly solo without even leaving the parish. Not too far from the Natchez Trace. Seventy degree weather and the grass is turning green.

Enough talk - I guess it's time to make a decision and buy something to enjoy all this.

Hello, I live in west monroe. My advice find a real clean 1200 custom asap while the prices are still kinda low. They are going up day by day as the weather gets better.

Donh, welcome from Southern Ontario! Feel free to poke around all you want to get any answers you can. If you find someone that has a bike identical/similar to the year/model you're looking to buy, feel free to drop them a message asking questions about their experiences. We all love our bikes, and so far I haven't met one who wouldn't gladly talk about their bike until their voice goes hoarse (myself included). As I'm sure you've signed up on boards for other bikes you're looking at as well, do the same to them. They'll probably be just as gabby as we are!

Whatever you decide, glad to have ya here!

I appreciate all the "Welcomes". I need somebody to push me over the edge. I've located a '04 883 with 1,100 miles, jetted, SE intake and Samson exhaust for $4900 firm.

I need to decide whether to go on a 300 mile round trip to Monroe (north Louisiana) to look at it.

That sounds like a decent deal? Yes? No?

This sounds excellent to me. I probably would have bought it when I went looking for a Sportster. I paid $4,800 for a 1988 with 4,600 miles. So $4900 for an 04 with 1,100 sounds outstanding to me.

I'd be inclined to jump on this if it passes visual inspection & check out. Plus ride if possible. It should look & run like brand new. Shoot 1100 miles is still new for all practical purposes.

If possible, I'd take a compression guage with me and test it out. If both cylinders are high and the same, I'd start waving some cash and see how "firm" their 'firm' really is. Even $4900 is a righteous bargain IMHO.

If I were you, I'd be concerned about someone buying it out from under me while I procrastinated about doing it.

Good Luck !!!

Bob G
