View Full Version : Me and my Sporty-sidecar project
Winterbiker 21st February 2007, 07:35 Hello to all,
my project comes to an end. Its name is Yesterdays, because the bike remembers to the golden age of the 20s. It´s a hardtail frame with a 96er Sportster-engine. Rear wheel is 185/65 x 15, front and sidecar wheel 130/90 x 16. Most of the bike was built from used parts except of the unique sidecar, that is completely new. Still missing some work like the wooden outer frame for the sidecar, the windscreen, the sidecar door and the leather work for the bike.
First rides were impressive. Another work will be to change the belt for a chain, because I need a lower gear reduction.
Hope to get it finished in the next weeks.
In autumn I´m planning a trip to the desert of Morocco. If you think I´m nuts for going with a hardtail to Africa, I´ll tell you, that all the great riders of the 20´s didn´t have the comfort of today. I wanna live for some weeks this adventure of the twenties.
However, what do you think about this project? Looking forward for your input.

planb 21st February 2007, 08:40 What a fine project! My hat's off to you! And your upcoming adventure sounds intriguing...please keep a journal and pictures! By the way, welcome to the forum! Glad you found us, and hope you'll tell us more about your project! If you might be interested, I just read a good book about two female motorcyclists that traveled from Algiers to Capetown in 1935 on a Panther motorcycle with a side car...the book was written by the participants, too...it's called, "The Rugged Road" by Theresa Wallach that I felt was a good read.

I'd love to have something like that to take my little ones riding. If you get the time, how about a breakdown of the things you've done, front end, rims & tires, fenders, sidecar, etc.
Be sure to keep a journal of your trip with pics so we can ride with you on your journey through the Dark Continent.
Be safe and have fun, Chris

Winterbiker 26th February 2007, 13:08 Hi all,
thank for the welcome and all the hints and tipps. To put an answer to some questions, that appeared: It´s a VG-frame made in Holland. The Springer fork is an after market part with the same dimensions as the original.
Just preparing some words about biulding the bike and the sidecar. As soon as it is finished, you´ll read in anither posting.
Thanks
Winterbiker
