I recall seeing this question asked somewhere in another thread a while back*, and from what I remember, the answer was no. It comes down the the space between the engine and the mount just not being large enough to accommodate the rubber bushing. I'm sure if you were using a custom frame, then adding an extra half inch (or whatever the space is) would be no problem, but I don't think it works on a stock XL frame.

From what I remember, the initial answer came from NRHS (as most final answers around here do), so I'll try and get Aaron or Dan to chime in on this. If anyone knows about wedging something unconventional into an XL frame, it's them.

*I promise: I'm not yelling at you to "search for it first", or anything like that. I looked for it myself, and I couldn't find it, so how could I expect you to?

I'd be willing to bet that even if it could be done it would be cheaper to sell the frame mount (tip of the hat to Bert and Casper here) and buy a rubbermount. If vibes at a constant speed are a problem a gearing change might be the answer.

Yes, but only if you want a new frame.

ChopperGuys makes a FXR based frame for the 03 and earlier.
It uses a rubber mount for the Sportster engine.

Roadster just finished a build with this frame.

My next Sportster build will be one of those.

Yeah, you have to have a beefier frame if you wanna rubber mount a hardmount motor. Pre '04's the motor is part of the frame and gives it strength. Rubber mounts, the frame is isolated from the motor and is beefier to give it strength. :smoke
