Uncle
25th February 2007, 22:11
Hello everyone. Call me Uncle. I live in Southern California, near Temecula. The region east of L.A., in western Riverside County and San Bernardino County is known as the Inland Empire, thus the title of my post.
I've been riding since 1979, with a loooooong break from about 1990 until 2004. My current ride is an '04 XL883. It's a work in progress. I'm gradually adding extras and upgrades to make it suitable for some long-distance touring. I hope to attend the Aspencade Rally in Ruidoso, New Mexico this coming September. :tour
To prep the bike for this kind of ride I've already added LeatherLyke bags, and soon I plan to add a windshield, luggage rack, highway lights, Lindby Multibar, air horn, etc etc. Funny how the list never seems to get any shorter. Sure, some people wonder why I'd want such a "little" bike, but the 883 suits me just fine. I especially like the low maintainance, tubeless tires, hydraulic lifters, and 87 octane gas. Plus, the Sportster has endured so long it's become a living classic; one that comes with legendary history and modern engineering.
I've been lurking here in the XLForum for about a year now, made some replies to a couple of posts, so I figure it's time to introduce myself. Also, soon's I'm done with this post I'm gonna make another one in the Sport-Glide forum seeking info about windshield and lightbar compatibility.
Many thanks to all the posters, newbies and old hands alike. Your experiences help me to enjoy my rides even more. Be well, and ride safe.
