View Full Version : Lurker from MN, saying hello
Just_Monica 26th February 2007, 20:10 Hi all,
Just joined last week, I have been lurking and perusing a lot of posts new & old - what a great forum!
I ride an '01 XL1200C that is getting new bags with ghost brackets as soon as I relocate the signals. Been riding again about 9 years; I dumped one when I was a teenager learning to ride, and always wanted to get back on a bike.
First bike was a '79 Suzuki 750 that someone had crashed, it was in several pieces when I got it and it took a while to put it all back together (but the price was right). Turned out to be too big, so I picked up a '72 Honda 450 for 500 bucks. It was that lovely brown color and had the fugliest windshield I've ever seen - too embarassing to even consider bolting it on. Then I had a black '83 Suzuki 450...then an '01 Softail Deuce...but the Sporty was my first Harley, and is now my only bike.
I love her. Her name is Miracle, and we're inseparable. I live in Minnesota but don't store my bike; I can't go that long between rides. If the streets aren't full of ice or snow, I'm riding even if it's just a little bit here and there.
Look forward to being a member of this forum - I have learned a lot already from searching and reading through previous threads.
Monica

Weo 26th February 2007, 20:43 Welcome!!!
When I was in MN I used to keep my bike in a parking ramp and sneak it out the sidewalk, lol. But you do what you have to do when you're living in a dorm.
Moved to Milwaukee during the last Harleyfest for grad school. Lake Michigan makes it a little wamer here during the winter (and cooler during the summer). I sure don't miss those -76 windchill winters. :p Haven't been to Cabooze in ages.

Only about 10 inches where I'm at. Streets are starting to clear already, but the ice on the driveway will make it tough to get the bike out to the street. :(
Got out a week ago Saturday for a couple hours. Not quite 20 degrees, but WOW did that feel good to be on two wheels...I went almost a month without riding.
Thanks to all for the warm welcome!
Monica

Northfield. I love eastern SD - have spent a lot of time in the Clear Lake area, my grandparents' farm was near there.

I hope so too. My snowblower is on its last legs, so some of this recent crap I shoveled by hand...ugh.
I bet it'll be two weeks before I can get the bike out again - but when I do, it'll feel that much better! (Gotta look on the bright side.)

rfranz1952 3rd March 2007, 18:37 Welcome! A very useful place.
We are through your neighborhood several times per year--my son attends the "U" (dual major in saxophone and bassoon performance), and we will be retrieving him for spring break next weekend. Also, one of my son's mentors got his degree at St. Olaf's. I actually applied for a job in Northfield about two years ago, but it didn't work out. seemed to be a great location. I try to visit one of the Company stores each trip. Last trip the stop was Faribault--close to Northfield, I think. A very friendly location. Apparently the riding isn't great right now. Hopefully that will improve.
I appreciate the comment about not storing the bike. I ride daily--at least to and from work--when the roads are clear, and missing days is difficult. Riding is great stress relief and relaxation!! The sportster is a great bike for that--not difficult to get out and ride on a whim.
fergenboysinc 4th March 2007, 04:06 Hi lurker/Monica Im a newbie too. Im guessin the snow is as deep there as it is here!?!? Anyways.........welcome!
