Although I realize this post is better suited elsewhere I thought other XR owners would have a better chance of seeing it. If you have an XR1000 take a look at this:

If any of the NRHS guys read this.....any chance you could make these? I realize the bikes are "antiques" but I'll bet 99% of them are still out there and we owners are constantly looking for these kinds of things. It will be interesting to see what these finally go for. I know I'm tempted to bid....if nothing else just to put the originals away (just in case). These bikes are valuable and we all want to keep them running:) .

I had an '83 long ago. Not H-D's greatest effort, but an interesting and cool motor. I was offered a set of alloy jugs once. Very rare and expensive, of course. John Tilley had some for Lucifer's Hammer that they got from Dick O'Brien (I think). I didn't buy them.

My 1000 lunched a main bearing support, for which they were infamous. The generator would shed it's windings over 6800 RPM like clockwork. The timer cup would disintegrate every few hours and kill the ignition. The stock tranny gears needed to be replaced with Andrews because the 4 speeds didn't like 100+ HP. It was fun to ride and dynoed 106HP with lots of mods. I had the XR bug really bad and got a 1975 750, which I raced with some success. My only problem was being too slow. The 750 weighed 320 and was a whole 'nother ball game.

Anyway, considering the effort to make those parts, $650 is a bargain. If they are properly done. Check out Sundance for some ultimate XR stuff based on Evo 5 speeds. ZOW!

When I was looking for a bike to build up as a street tracker the XR-1000 was my first choice. Then I talked to a guy who owned one. He said almost the same things to the letter as you did. So then I was able to find a well used EVO and went from there.

I remember going to the dealer with my dad and seeing the XR for the first time. I thought it was the coolest thing. I would still like to have one but the value of them has really gone up.

Boy! Those sure look nice. It sure would be nice if Aaron would lend his opinion on these.

I have seen his critiques of different types of cylinders and would like his opinion if these are worthwhile.

Hey Aaron! We need your help on this one!
