Signal Problems, Where Do I Start

My right side turn signal stopped working last summer and now I have to fix it to get an inspection sticker. I was just wondering where to start my trouble shooting. Before it stopped working it went through a spell where I would have to hit the button 3 or 4 times before it would come on, it seemed to help if I held it down for a few seconds also. Then all the sudden it stopped all together. The left side works just fine, just the right is out. Anyone had this trouble before. It is my 01, but all the lights are after market and it has a load equilizer. I know to start with the bulbs, but from there were do I go.

Swap the plug-in leads for each turn signal that is under the taillight lens. See if the trouble goes to the other light.
Can be tested in 5 minutes.

Found the problem, it is the switch. I pulled off the riser cover and switched the plugs for the left and right side and found it that way.
