I just picked up my XL883. Great great bike.

I noticed that my right shin bangs against the air cleaner.

It got me thinking, are there smaller air cleaners made for the Sporty?

Just a thought!

Thanks

There are TONS!!!

Not sure what's compatible with the EFI bikes as of yet (I don't think it should matter), but the two that come to mind are the Forcewinder and the HurricaneFlow A/C's, both are availible from NRHS (a sponsor of the board).

xl1200r is correct, tons. Just about anything that will bolt up to the CV carb will bolt up to the EFI. Awhile ago I had heard that the Hyperchargers wouldn't work with the EFI, but that had to do with the vacume actuated garbage on them.

Anyway, I have bolted up a Hurricane 3" offset from NRHS. Highly recommended. It's not really smaller, but it's offset so it clears your knee. NRHS stuff is all quality. It is a case of you get what you pay for (meaning it ain't cheap).

And if you want to save money, you may want to take a look at what Bell883c did on this thread (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=49886).

Bottom line, lots of options. Good luck.

If you want smaller, there'e always that old favourite, the Dragtron:

NRHS has a kit that will move your stock air cleaner cover foward, and add a high-flow backing plate and K&N filter to it in the process...

Rather than starting a new thread, I'll risk resurrecting this old one and ask:

Will air cleaner upgrades generally require a trip to the H-D dealer to tweak the FRED (Friggin Ridiculous Electronic Device) controlling the EFI?

Geeeze dude!

You're usin Wabiker's old avatar, and it kinda feaked me out for him to be askin this question...

....to answer your question, as far as I have read, yes, if you upgrade to a higher flowing AC, you should also upgrade to higher flowing exhaust, and you'll probably need to re-map your efi progam to reflect the changes to get optimum performance...

still kinda freaked out....

As for your question, I agree with Hot Rod.

I'm using the Arlen Ness Big Sucker. Clears my knee and makes the engine look bigger. ;)

That's a bit surprising, 'cos I didn't think the Big Sucker was all that small! :)

I'm definitely thinking of going with the Dragtron:

Here's some better pics (not even on a Harley this time):
