Kev M 23rd March 2007, 16:28 Uh KB, you KNOW that's not the XR in the pic right?
Duane Wood 24th March 2007, 07:23 interesting photo-shop
Don Burton 25th March 2007, 02:46 Ah, if I was a kid, I'd probably just get a Buell and paint it orange and black! That way it would have some go with the show! I mean flcking it around in the twisties, which is something that the Sporty doesn't do as well. Still, I'd like to see one of these XR1200s in person.
smackie 25th March 2007, 05:26 hell i would just do the storz conversion and NRHS motor work.....get a better bike

Well, I think you're right, but it's more money and kids don't always have that. I like that Storz for sure! If money were no object, I likely wouldn't look anywhere else. I do appreciate the Buell's light weight. I'm not sure how much the Storz weighs but I like the looks of it better.
Kev M 26th March 2007, 02:57 I actually don't care for the Storz...
Don Burton 26th March 2007, 11:56 Oh Boy! I'm in Love! I take back what I said about wanting the Buell. Look at this video. Go to this page and then look down to the center of the page for the area to click for the XR1200 Video. The video will first show an ad for a Kawasaki or whatever then it will show XR 750 dirt trackers before it finally gets to the XR1200. Where is that test track here in Florida? I though this bike likley had mostly cosmetic changes but now I think not! A two up Sportster based sport bike that really handles and has more power has got to be awesome! I wish I could have seen this before I bought mine! Heres the URL to the Video.

Kev, If you haven't seen this, you're going to be frothing at the mouth!

Kev M 26th March 2007, 17:33 Dan,
LOL, you'd have to dig deep into the early XR1200 threads, but you'll find where that link was posted before and where we discussed that video.
It was part of my defense of the machine.
It absolutely left me frothing for one.
The right combination of handling and power. No, NOT a all out sportbike, but a VERY Sporty version of a Sporty ;)
Now, the race is on to see if/when it will be sold here.
This morning, Moto Guzzi had the official unveiling of the new Guzzi Bellagio (originally shown earlier this year as the 940c). But they officially announced it along with specs. A just sub 500 lbs bike with a 95mm x 66mm bore and stroke. The bore of their big bikes, the stroke of their small ones. Not as powerful as the XR, but a tad smaller with a chassis that promises to handle VERY well. The real question is how long will it take for it to make it to our shores, one year, two years? Will I have an XR in my garage before then?
Who knows.
Kev
Todd31de 26th March 2007, 17:51 I loved the video, shows the development not just bolt on items for a look. The XR is long time due but that being said HD didn't have the technology to provide it. So now it has the motor and suspension to match the look. I wonder SE parts will be available for it. Maybe we are only seeing the surface of engine performance on this machine. Larger brakes? Performance suspension parts?
It is cool and I want to ride one. I doubt that I would buy one since I have my own XR copy that is paid for.

Kev,
If anyone had seen it, I knew you had but was hoping! It's an old article but I had only seen the other official H-D one that isn't nearly as good. This bike has some purpose developed forks and other suspension parts and I can only hope that they reduced the weight somehow with a different frame and swingarm. It sort of reminds me of the old XR750 road racers that I used to see at Loudon back in the early 1970s. Of course the gas tank looks more like a flat tracker and there's no fairing on it. Well, these are going to be available, I have no doubt, and I know that you'll hold out for an orange one as I would. I think that they ought to do a black 2 into 1 exhaust and make that rear fender look better somehow. Other than that, it's a winner!

Kev M 26th March 2007, 22:47 Sorry I didn't think to say it this morning, but thanks for thinking of me with the link
