I built this frame for my OL with her 1999 883 motor for mock up. I don't have the funds to continue so trying to sell it for wheel, tires, front end and other parts money. I can build another frame. Just need money for the parts I can't make.
Anyway, I don't know all that much about sporty motors and was wondering what else will fit the same mounts. I'm kinda tight on the rear rocker box so it can't be much taller. Will a 1200 evo fit ? What about an ironhead..... I know there's a differance in the stock front mounting brackets, but were they only due to the frame changes or are the holes in the cases different. I guess that'd be the same issue with the top motor mount too.
I've got this frame set up with custom mounts for the 883. Will anything else bolt in without modifications.
THANKS John

Any solid mount Evo Sportster engine will fit (883 or 1200) from 1986-2003. Not sure about ironheads, but I don't think so.

I strongly concur with the 86-03 883/1200 fitment will work.

All else, I can't say.

Ironhead won't fit if it's been mocked for an EVO motor cause the front brakets are different on the IH.

I've got this on Ebay with a reserve price of $2000 for frame, gas tank, oil tank, and welded in betterty box, and the motor mounts. The frame is about -2 up, +3 out at 38 degress. Neck has built in internal stop with a plate that get mounted to the lower tripple tree. Set up for a 180/200 tire. About 4" of ground clearance. It's about 19" to the seat area as is. The gas tank has hidden mounts recessed into the tank and a welded in stainless steel pop up gas cap. Standard cross over and petcock bungs. Oil tank is plumbed for vent and return then has the feed and drain.

A friend of mine builds lots of Sporty frames www.tanksbytigman.com and when I asked if the Ironhead would fit, this is what he wrote:

John yes the 79 will go right in. The evo heads are actually a bit taller I think by 1/8" or so. He might have to fudge around with the removeable plates at the front. Unless you made a front mount set up differant then stock. But thats all part of choppin.........good luck, hope you sell it..........Dave

I made my own front mounts and if the bolt locations are the same on both model engine cases, then it should bolt right up. I knew the brackets for those years were different, but wasn't sure, still not, if it was due to the frame changes, engine case changes, or both.

Anyway, I appreciate everyones help. THANKS, John

yes an Ironhead case will fit, holes are in same location. would have to do something with the top motor mount that would be it. I know this because I just put a 93 1200 in an 82 ironhead frame bottom bolted right in just have to make a change on top motor mounts
