I was wondering if anybody can ID this frame. I got it a while ago off of E-bay, the seller said he picked it up at a swap meet and didn't know if it was HD or not. He added the footpeg and kickstand mounts. I don't think that it is HD because it doesn't have numbers and the front motor mount tabs don't go through the frame tubes. But it does have the cast tomahawk and I didn't think that any of the aftermarket frames used that. It also doesn't have the tabs for the oil tank spring holder things, and I think there are supposed to be seat mounting bungs on the top T-junction. Maybe a homemade job? The welds are pretty high quality TIG, and the thing is light, making me think that it is chromemoly. http://xlforum.net/photopost/watermark.php?file=44288&size=1

I'll tell you what, it looks exactly like the Knight frame in my '72, excepting the front motor mounts, the little oil tank tabs and the seat mount cross-brace; my engine mounts are in the tube. My frame doesn't have any numbers on it. Maybe an earlier model, or unfinished?

Yeah, I've been trying to research it for a while know. I have the Girdler book on Harley racers, you can see that type of front motor mount on all of the newer (80's) aftermarket frames like the ones from Lawwill. But then he goes on to say that none of the aftermarket frames use the tomahawk because of flexing. Also, in another book he says that harley subcontracted Knight to make all of the frames for a later batch of bikes in the seventies, when Harley still sold complete bikes (I think the 78 batch). To add to the puzzle, my frame came with an oil tank (not attached). It is an aluminum triangular one, but the filler is not on the side, and it has Lawwill written in sharpie on it. The seller said he had no idea about it as he got it with the frame at a swap meet. I'll have to snap some pictures of it as well. By the way the wood between the two upper shock mounts is just to keep the frame from banging out of true when it was shipped.

Looks like an XR750 factory flat track frame, but it could be from 1970 up to 1989, they didn't have VIN numbers...

I dont remember mine or any of the XR frames having a kickstand mount, but then that one looks like it was welded on as an afterthought.
