Got my a:censor :censor whipped by a BT today-(Well actually got my butt patted just a little). Didn't get me by much but still got me. At the light I asked him what he'd done-110" SE up-grade. Beware out there-it looked like a bone stock bagger.:yikes

"Big Twin" from the "dark side" of Harley Davidson. One of those bikes the Sporty's always supposed to be able to beat. Not today.

Big Twin

Any Harley that is not a sportster....They are the bikes without sportster engines...Dynas, Softtails.etc

We lovingly refer them as road sofas or geezer gliders.

They are usually slower off the line as they are heavier and are made for cruising. The pre 2006 models were 88 inchers (1450cc). The new ones are 96 inchers.

Usually sportys can kick their butts unless there is a sleeper that has been hopped up as the initial thread mentined,

Good lord, I'd hope he had won, how much do you think he had invested to slightly beat you? I'm guessing 20k bike or more.. sad actually lol

I don't know guy's,
My son inlaw has an 07 stage 1 softail with the 96" BT. And we are dead even, From a stop I can get away from him but he will catch me quik. Then it's just dead even up to 110 or so. And he has another gear left....

I am in the middle of rejetting again and re-tuning it, Then we will see how they do. The Sporty is running pretty dam good but theres a few HP's left in there hiding from me at the moment......

I've never had a problem spanking the 96 inchers with a stage 1 since I put the Hurricane A/c and SE SP's on. That's why I was so suprised.

It also depends on the size/weight of the rider! :P

I had him beat there by @ 50#-he was a little squirt! Thank God there was a logical reason-I feel so much better now!

You have two choices, you can either call NHRS and get your set of heads stage 2 ported, a hot cam and pipe so you can win next time or you can stop racing him. 110 inches is a pretty big motor. Even at 1 h.p. and 1 ft/lb of torque you can get your butt spanked quite nicely unless you build yours to about 90/100 h.p.

piss on all of your little bike egos... there is no one here that will disagree that there is NO substitute for big inches...
you get what you pay for, and I for one had an 883, i've ridden another 883 hopped up to 1250 with blah, blah, blah and it's just not enough, sure it could take any bt off the light, but how often do i ride that way? rarely if ever, I'm a commuter and long hauler, and my bone stock 96" has spanked many sporty, regardless of how many "widgets" you've bolted on, it's a simple matter of rider experience and cubic inches, most sporty's problem with me is I've got both... If only I could get the little shits to race pink slips, I'd be a sporty owning SOB!

GRAIN OF SALT: there is someone else out there that is a better rider than me that could beat me with my own bike, and there are sporty's out there that could be me on my bike, but the combination is rare and not likely to be seen too often, trust me, i've been looking for the sporty vs BT race, both from my own sporty back when, and now on my 96"BT

I wouldn't change things at all.

Don't sweat it. sometimes ya gonna win - sometimes ya gonna lose, that's racing. speed costs $$, what is your commitment to go fast? just enjoy:)

Unless you are actually racing for money, who cares? The sporty is frisky like a cat, and the BT is ultimately faster, like a Sled Dog. I own one of each, so I know. there is no substitute for cubic inches. Why would I feel bad if a 113" BT spanked my 74" (1200) sportster in a race? That would be like saying "I feel bad that my 1100 cc souped up Hyundai Elantra couldn't beat your 454" stock Corvette".

Who cares? So I'll buy the first round. Who cares? you will buy the second round, because I gave you a good run for your money, and you never guessed a sportster would give you such a challenge.

'nuff said.

Well, the old adage, no substitute for cubes....I will smoke all your gay asses with my Greyhound bus. It has a BIGGER MOTOR than any bike, even the nimble and fleet Boss Hoss. Corvetttes? A joke. Screamin Superchicken 113? Ha! GSXR 1000? You jest. ZX1400R? a childs toy. That's why they don't let anybody race them busses, they're faster'n anything, even a NASA X-15 cause it's got a BIGGER MOTOR. :D

that is the thing with racing, its all about how deep your pockets are. I wouldn't be upset if some guy went out and spent double what I did and just barely beat me. You could probably buy two of your bikes for what he spent on his.

I'll not race you, I may not even be able to out ride you, I don't care, all I know is I have fun on my scooter. It will do anything on the open road that a BT will do, my butt maybe a little sore when I get where I'm going, but I'll get there just the same. 70 or 80 is the same speed on a sporty as it is on a BT and it will get a ticket just as fast. If I wanted Bling I'd have bought a roadsofa, I wanted a bike that still had that ol skool look and XL's to that for me.

There a guy that races at Bradenton Motorsports Park, our local drag strip. Who claims to have the worlds fastest normally aspirated dresser. It's an evo BT, and he run 10s in the quarter.
