was looking at replacing my stock pipes, I know everyone has there own taste and there own budget. What are you guys running? I was looking at the Rash slip ons for the best bang for the buck, but caught my eye on the Hooker troublemaker's for a different look, anybody have any experience with these or hooker exhaust at all?? I also like the vance and hines big shots but they are a little pricy.. thanks for your help.

You ask 100 people you get 101 answers. My .02 is that if you are going to go with a 2-2 system get the stepped design for better performance. The 2-1 are the best for power up high but IMHO are ugly as hell and the sound like a Honda and yes I have run them. I settled on a set of Rinehart's 2-2 sound great and perform well. I probably give up 5 or 6 HP on the dyno but I can afford it. ;)

You and me are on the same page. I love my Hooker Step Tuned staggered duals, but they won't fit forwards.

I run V & H Short Shots Staggered. You can go to there web site and get "sound" of their pipes. Its all in what you really want. Sound? Performance? Compact? long and lean?. My opinion V&H SSS was money well spent got the whole shebang for a little over $320.00 and install was easy. slipons, any make will be easy on the wallet. Again its all in what you are looking for.

I went with the V&H Straightshots HS. Would do it again in a heartbeat, great set of pipes.

Best bang for the buck? Cycleshack slipons.... REALLY cheap; but I don't LOVE the sound they put out...

I will stand begind ANY Vance and Hines - I really think they are some of the best... I have the sideshots. Loud as hell and WAY better than stock. I don't know if theres others that would give me MORE power and torque but these work great IMO..

I think you have three (maybe four) choices:

Best value = any of the slip-ons - Rush, Cycle Shack, V&H, etc.
Best looking = full systems with heat shields - Bub, V&H, Cobra, Samson etc.
Best performance = 2~1 system - Rinehart, Thunderheaders, That other one, etc.

... and Licks Custom Cycles has some very nice custom-looking selections here: http://www.lickscycles.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=26

Have fun choosing :p

I'll second ( or third or whatever) the vote for Vance & Hines. I've got the Straightshots HS and love the sound and performance. I think the straightshots have a deeper sound due to the longer pipe than the shortshots or the sideshots.

I love the look of the hookers, but I don't like the 'poppy' sound.

My 2 cents...

I guess I like the look of the full systems better, love the look of the full length pipes. Also liked the radical look of some of the hooker style pipes but what you are saying is they are "poppy". I don't really want anything extremely loud....performance is not the top of my list. Guess I am asking what do you think looks the coolest with the best sound....then again, everyone has there own opinion!!! thanks for the help thought, this is great. I guess everyone goes through this decision!!

When I went to buy my new pipes, there was a guy who worked mainly in the shop working the parts counter. I was considering Bassani, Cycle Shacks, Rineharts, and several others. I asked him which he would choose and why. Without a hesitation he said, "Vance and Hines......sound quality."

With that said, they're NOT quiet with the standard baffles in, but they do make 'quiet baffles' for $29.95 more.

V & H Strait Shots are a little expensive but I do not regret buying them at all

I have the Straightshots HS on my ride as well. They sound and look great and performance still seems to be good. Plus the staggered duals is a more traditional look. With a 1200 conversion, the sound is really enhanced with a deeper tone than with the stock 883.

This thread is actually about Sportster exhaust, right? This is the Buell portion of the forum...

Is there a similar thread around here anywhere for Buells, or do I look for that on the Sportster portion of the forum??? :-)
