What do you all think is a good price for a----
2001 XLC 883 Black
4000 miles
Upgraded AC (hypercharger)
Slip ons
Carb jetted for pipes and AC

Has a few things like different pegs, grips, a tach, signals.
I know the owner and he is pretty anal about maintenance, so I know it has been taken care of. What do you all think is a fair price?
KBB- says $5235 retail // $3500 trade-in.

Thanks

I would say $4500 and its a deal.......
fair number for the info listed.....
extra add on crap does not add to the value of the mc.
unless it is a fully decked out 100th anny with all the badges and kinck nack crap.

Try to get some history on the bike from the seller. Where did he get the bike, why such low mileage, and so on. Take his answers at face value and then run a CarFax on the VIN. CarFax isn't always 100% accurate, but they do have usefull information.

Talk to your dealer or independant Harley shop and ask about having a Pre Purchase Inspection done. Then go back to the seller and tell him that you want a PPI done at YOUR expense. If the seller balks, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

If the seller says OK, then have the inspection done and use any problems as bargaining chips. If no problems are discovered during the PPI, so much the better

In case, the money you spend for a CarFax report and a PPI before you make your decision can save you a ton of money and aggravation later on.

I am friends with the owner, I thought I said that. He purchased the bike from a friend of his that bought it for his wife, she didn't want to ride her own. He purchased for his wife that didn't want to ride her own either. This was a second bike for both guys---so the mileage is low.

Good tip about the PPI---if all checks out good--what is a good price?

Oops, missed the part about you knowing the seller. Sorry.

Based on what you've been told, this could be a very good deal. Last fall I paid $5000.00 for an '03 with 7700 miles.

I didn't get a completed history on the bike, but I did get to ride it and I gave it a good going over before we closed the deal.

Deciding how much the bike is worth is pretty much up to you. The first thing to do is set a maximum amount. Do some "shopping" on Craigs List and Cycle Trader. Compare the asking prices of bikes that are similar to the one you are looking at. From that point on it's pretty much up to you.

I have an 01 with the 1200 conversion and Mikuni HS42 carb when I bought it. I gave 5000 flat for it with 5,229 miles on it. I based my amount on a bare bones 1200. and came in a few hundred below it's top amount which was $5,700. Trade value is way below that at 3,800 or lower. The thing is...do you want to trade later?...I didn't. Sporties don't trade well at the Stealer. My plan is to hop up the sportster more and more and get a Dyna or Electra for open interstate and old lady hauling in another year and keep the Sporty for around town and fun at the drag strip. As long as you don't give a stupid amount of money for one it all depends on your plans for it.
