i have a 91 sporty and last season i developed a knock in the lower end. it ended up being a worn crank pin. my question is that i found a complete motor off an 01 sporty from a friend. would be less money to buy it from him then replace all the parts i need for my motor. just wondering if it will fit and if there would be any kind of mods id have to make besides the chain to belt conversion. thanks!

It shouldn't be a problem, both bikes were/are 5-speed evos.

not to mention the '01 would have better headwork and would be slightly more powerful. The only place I can think of that you might have a problem with is the electrical components. It would be a great time to upgrade to a different ignition.
