I have a manual & have read jetting 101 and I also know everyones bike is diffrent ! But how do you replace that dang spring ?????:doh :frownthre Good question.... If you loosen the main bolt on the jiffy stand (to the mount), you will get enouph play in the mechanism to get it on... You have to get past the "stop"...put on the spring, then get'er back into place.... Obviously, it either a lift or a front wheel hold to be able to do this.... williard952 5th April 2007, 14:26 Cobalt & Titanium Vise Grips, X-small... The ones with the 3" lifting eye in the handle... (And the d**n jiffy stand still drags on left turns...) :-) -Willy Johnny G 5th April 2007, 14:42 Take it off when the stand is in the up position it is not very hard I just use a pair of pliers. I take mine off every oil change to clean and grease it. Sportster1200 5th April 2007, 16:39 I had one that was really tight so I used a handful of change to stretch it out. Just put a dime or nickel in between each coil when the spring is under tension. Do the same with the new one by bending it back and forth. Then after you have it mounted pull the change out. Change the bushing at the same time (If you have one) Kong kdarejr 5th April 2007, 16:45 that would be usefull info if it were on the bike but it broke right off ! that is a good tip ! tstoeckel 5th April 2007, 19:55 When I did mine I just used a set of vise grips and brute force to hook it to the bike. I had my wife hold the bike upright while I did it because my bike jack actually gets in the way of the jiffy stand. xllent01 5th April 2007, 20:02 Just have to pull cotter pin, take the jiffy pin out and push down and out and the whole jiffy stand comes right off without even worrying about using pliers or nickels to take the tension off the spring. BTW- don't loose the brass bushings around the pin or it will flop without them if you crush or destroy them somehow. Speaking of the bushings... in my experience a floppy kickstand is more often caused by a worn bushing than a worn spring... :shhhh xllent01 5th April 2007, 20:22 Speaking of the bushings... in my experience a floppy kickstand is more often caused by a worn bushing than a worn spring... :shhhh Yep, this is true, Bad bushings equal floppy kick stand, :p :laugh :laugh Best to replace both it makes anyone feel better. oh -yeah the bushings are brass so they can get distorted or worn out easily after just a few yrs of service. 83XLX 5th April 2007, 20:28 brute strength or some good leverage It takes both on my bike, plus a little kussin'.:laugh tstoeckel 5th April 2007, 23:58 It takes both on my bike, plus a little kussin'.:laugh I need more than a little kussin'. :p williard952 6th April 2007, 04:28 So... Can I take the jiffy stand all the way off and just put a front coil spring from an '72 Renault on the left case and kinda lean it way over. Bushings? (wonder if my '91 is supposed to have one of these here bushings?) -Willy the guy with the front half of his jiffy stand worn half off from turnin' left. |
