Reason #83 why Firefox sucks ass. Bert's Googlemap doesn't show up.

Reason #83 why IE is still and will always be the corporate standard - Firefox sucks ass again. Put anpther dollar in Microsoft's pocket...

It shows up now that I have added myself via IE. That would be reason #84...IE needed to fix Firefox problems.

OK, I got my data put in, but there's no pin, and when I click on "show on map" I don't have a marker pin.

Hit refresh or exit and then come back ( Not with the back button ).

If that's not it.....Try to pin it again.
Mine came up the first try.

MrJimi and Hot Rod Sporty,
Your pictures aren't showing up for me.
As an example, Here's Deaner's: linking to the Forums gallery.

http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/500/medium/100yrs.jpg

I can see his but..............Not yours.

I looked at both your image properties and can't tell where their pointing.
Looks like back into the google map itself. Not a picture.

I used my own webspace picture.

Carl-04XL
11th April 2007, 20:48
I got it to work in Firefox... but only by using the "open link in IE tab (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419)" add-on. When I tried to login (server didn't recognize me as already being logged in) I got a runtime error asking if I wanted to debug. I answered NO and it continued to work. Just kept getting that dang runtime error.

But, I'm in.
The world view has my pin sitting in the Atlantic just east of the DelMarVa peninsula. I didn't put a pix in and I put my user name in everywhere else. I'll go back and edit it sometime when I've got a good pix to put in.

See my post, #32, just prior to yours. I got it to work, just got a lot of error messages I said NO to. (I don't know if I want to go through that again, once I've updated my 'pin'.) Might give the developer a shout about FF non-native functionality.

I got it now. I had to remove the [IMG part from the front and back of the url. That's an old picture from right after I got the bike. The bike has changed some, and I've got a lot more hair now. I just haven't had any pics taken lately with me in them.

Here's the instructions:

Open the map.

Click on 'Your Entry'

Find yourself on the map. It helps to zoom in, then click on your state, country, or whatever. Then zoom in on your city, and finally zoom in to your street and approximate location. If you, at this time, switch to 'satellite' you can usually find your actual house, apt, bridge, park bench, etc.. Click on it to center it on the map. This gives the lat/long. input automatically.

Put your screen name in for the marker text.

Tranfer a pic from your XL Forum pictures. You may have to remove the [IMG part at the front and back.

TIP: if you've been screwing with it try DELETING your information (at the bottom) and starting over.

Hope this helps!

Reason #1 why IE sucks ass: All viruses are aimed at you.

Microsoft Product Improvement Committee S.O.P:
Step1- Attempt to buy all good ideas and incorporate them.
Step2- If they wont sell, steal the source code and change just enough to
copyright it. (IE7 [Firefox], C# [Java] ect. ect.........)

Ok, I added another new feature. You can now add a link to your location on the right side of your post display area. See above on my post display where it says "bplinson’s Googlemap location" You can only do this after you have set up your marker.

1. Go to the vbGooglemap here: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/vbgooglemapme.php?do=showmain

2. Click on YOUR ENTRY

3. Copy the Using normal URL

4. Go to USER CP.

5. Click on EDIT PROFILE and go to the bottom.

6. Past the info you copied from Using normal URL in the googlemap box.

7. Click Save Changes.

Just FYI for those who are interested....no problems viewing map in Firefox using the IE Tab Extension.

I use both IE7 and Firefox, like them both, but tend to use the Firefox more. As for things not workning in Firefox...not an issue using the IE Tab Extension, at least I didn't have any problem.

bplinson
12th April 2007, 12:00
Yup, I have verified that the vbGooglemap works with FF using the IE Tab extention.

Had no errors what-so-ever.

FF users can get IE Tab here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

On the XL Forum Googlemap click on "YOUR ENTRY"

Move the map arond to your location and zoom in. If you want to, you can put a marker on your home or just the city.

Then near the bottom you will see "URL of the image for the marker".

Copy that URL into your profile.

bplinson
26th April 2007, 21:08
Oops!! As you were!!

You need to copy and paste the "Using normal URL " address into your profile NOT the "URL of the image for the marker".

The "URL of the image for the marker" is for if you want an image on the pop up when someone clicks on your marker.
