Was wondering if most go by the bike or service manual's suggestion as far as to the mileage on the bike before changing spark plugs. I have a 2002 XL883 Custom that is carburated and uses regular non-synthetic type oil. When do you suggest changing and what brand/type do you recommend? My bike has right at 8,200 miles on it and starts and runs good, but I like to keep things maintained before there's a problem if I can. Thanks to all for any imput.

I change plugs fairly often, but when she's happy, I leave well enough alone....

Sometimes a quick bead-blast is all it takes.....

Once a year for me, no problems with the bike. I just do it with one of my oil changes. Plugs are cheap and easy to change.

every spring during the pre season service.... I'll check them mid summer during an oil change .... they're cheap and easy to do so I do them more often than needed... I use HD plugs( made by Champion)

When you do change the plugs, don't throw them away. I always carry a pair of good, used plugs with me, just in case (never has happened) a plug would go bad.

The used plugs worked before, they're small for carrying and if you ever did need them, they are handy to get to.

I change at every 10,000. They always looked good but 10,000 is an easy number to remember.

Ok, thanks again everyone. Been riding since 1973 but I'm new to the harley world. Bought this bike used the end of this past August, have put 5,200 miles on it so far and I'm lovin' it!

I change them with plain HD plugs once a year, and I use never seize on them.

I use iridiums. What's a plug change?

I wonder how they will hold up in Marilyn:tour They both bang up to the same red line, but Marilyn gets up there more often. Lucky Girl.:clap

Every 500 miles or so I pull the plugs, to check them, then I run them on a wire wheel to clean them up, and finally re-gap them. They seem to last a lot longer that way and the bike runs better.
