ABNRanger
17th April 2007, 14:16
My username reflects my background and is a statement of who I am and what I stand for. It is summed up in a 6 stanza creed:

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster, and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one hundred percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress, and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.

My brother Joe (RIP) used to call me Bartholomew. My real name is Barry.

The Bart nickname stuck for a while back in the day, and I've been using it in various forms as a username in different forums. For example, on a firearms forum I'm Bart Colt.

Coincidentally my middle initial is T, and sometimes I get junk mail wrongly addressed to BarT. Heh.

Casper
17th April 2007, 15:34
Two reasons:

1) I have a bad habit of not always notifying anyone of my arrival or departure from events. Some of my friends came to comment that I vanish "like a f___ing ghost".

2) An ex of mine told me that I remind her of Casper, the friendly ghost. I'm the nicest guy in the world, but I look scary.

Hence the name.

WHISPANIC

White Hispanic

I coined the term about 15 years ago when people kept asking what I was.

My teachers would get pissed at me when I would check "other" on tests. They said I was mexican and I said I was American and Texan, but not mexican!

Whispanic stuck...

Its kind of funny cause I have seen it used on the net quite a bit lately to identify folks like myself... makes poppa proud.

I am a true Southpaw by birth. Shoot, bowl, play ball, write,

This handle was acquired while woodsrunning with a muzzleloading
rifle club. The members all had unique handles, and deemed me
"wrongpaw" because I shot lefty....

Was my CB handle back in the early 70's because - no surprises here - I study sharks (professionally). It just stuck. Folks who I have known in the Keys forever still try to contact me at sea using "Shark Doctor" rather than my boat's name, even though we're now on Marine VHF radio instead of CB's.

"You got the Shark Doctor here - go ahead Big Beaver..."

ReddTigger
18th April 2007, 00:30
Way back in the day. (1994) I went off to college after the navy and I had signed up for aol, They gave me that Akell98792387 crap.... when NO ONE would talk to me, someone suggested to get creative with my name..

Battlecry ( call sign for squadron) was taken
Stinger (Squadron name) was taken.
Geronimo (My call sign) was taken.
Tigger was taken. (ex GF had kids, I brought over a bunch of POOH Movies and the kids called me TIGGER)
Well, I do have RED HAIR.... so lets try this...

Red Tigger was taken
but REDDTIGGER wasn't.... Been that ever since..

REDDTIGGER has since been my Screen name or email, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc...
I have a whole group of friends who do NOT know my real name, They only call me Tigg.... or Tigger.. which makes a fun time when the phone rings and your mom answers and the person on the other end asks, "is Tigger around"

And yet another group who only know me as "Kentucky" (I am from NY, and I moved there for 2 years, came home with a DRAWL, they started busting chops and the name stuck. so now, Kentucky is a PROFESSIONAL name, LOL)

My 2nd car was a 1966 Pontiac GTO. The GTO somehow earned the nickname "the Goat". Since it was the mid '70's when I had my '66, I called it the "Old Goat" and also used that "handle" on the CB radio.

When the internet came along and everyone needed nicknames, it seemed the logical choice to use "Old Goat"

Name for my old pickup, big because of the tires, blue was the color, and bowtie because it is a chevy. Can;t fit it on a license plate, use it on ebay and other places. Just easy for me to remember. Love them cigars. Right I'm smoking a Romeo Y Jullietta from the place you can't get them from.

I have 9 small humidors (I collect cigar stuff like accessories and cigar store indians and other folk art) and one my wife bought me one that is wood and glass and as bigger than an endtable that has an electric humidifier and holds more than 500 cigars.

biknut
4th June 2007, 04:08
When I was 5 years old I ask my mom for 4 lids from soup cans. I punched holes in the middle of the lids (I asked my father to help me) and tied them to the handle bars of my bicycle. These were my guages. I had no idea what guages were for, but I knew a motorcycle was supposed to have them.

Within a year I was running balloons in my spokes front and rear.

By the age of 8, I was jumping ramps made with cement blocks and a board to wow my friends. To make it interesting I would jump over a burning coffee can filled with gasoline.

I think you can figure it out now.

Mr.Hick
4th June 2007, 04:46
My AP U.S. History teacher coined me as "Mr.Hick" because I was the ONLY kid in my AP class that wasn't of the "Jock-Prep" type. Obviously I stuck out like a sore thumb in my Sh*t Kickers and flanel. It has stuck with me ever sense.

apocoloco...because I guess I always have been. Waylan had a tune once about bein' crazy keepin' him from goin' insane. I think it was around then that somebody stuck me with the name. I do find that age tends to take some of the loco away, though.

BlueBunny
13th June 2007, 20:01
Although "Bunny" is not my real name, it's the name that family and family friends have called me by all my life. My big brother is responsible for the "Bunny". He nicknamed me that because I was born at 12 noon on Easter Sunday. Poor kid! The Easter Bunny only came in the form of me. :o My older siblings spent the day at our grandparents. That year, they ended up with a baby in a bunting instead of a bunny in a basket.

The blue part has to do with a main online (admin) persona I've had at another site for 9 years, which is also my ehhh.. okay.. now that it's out.. bellydancing name. Also has to do with certain health issues faced by my family that tend to make me "blue". And most of all.. it's about that perty blue Sportster I love with a passion.

Until last year, I had no clue there was an ice cream company with the same name.

Turbota
19th June 2007, 02:11
Along time ago I owned an 89 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am. (TurboTA)

This was the 20th Aniversary Trans Am and also the Indy Pace Car for 1989.

Pontiac produced only 1,550 of them. They all were painted white and all had the 87 turbo Buick Grand National (GN) drivetrain which included the turbocharged and intercooled 3.8L Buick GN engine. This was the fastest production US manufactured car in 89 ... Yes, it was quicker than the 89 Corvette.

Mine was modified and ran the 1/4 mile at 11.87 ET @ 114 mph (with race gas, boost set to 19 psi and slicks).

spanner_rash
27th December 2007, 20:33
I've been tinkering with motorcycles for about 25 years, and whenever a socket, or spanner ( a wrench to my American friends) slips off a rounded nut, taking your knuckles into spokes/engine fins/breezeblocks, the ensuing skinned knuckles/bleeding fingers/ripped out fingernails are referred to as "spanner rash".

Spanner rash is evident when you don't use the correct tool for the job, thus causing slippage. Hence my second motto "he who dies with the most tools wins".

I am a story teller at mountain man rodezvous.
We relive the 1800 to 1850 time era.
If any of you know about rondy most of the time you have to do something dumb to get a name ie full moon was crawling over a log while drunk and had no bloomers on, Big step was camped next to a gully took one big step to far and they found him the next morning passed out at the bottom of the gully.
I made up a story about a (dog) that i got from a frenchie in Batton Rouge as the story goes on it turns out to be a sheep.
The name stuck and most of the people that i run with don't even know my given name so i use it places that require a user name.

People from my home town are known as Turks. Different theories have been put forward for this name, including Turkish immigrants on route for America in the early 1900s hearing there was work to be found in Llanelli disembarked in search of a better life in the industrial town.
Another theory is that during the 1st World War many Llanelli soldiers were sent to Gallipoli. When they returned they were said to have Turkish sand in their boots.

Anyone want to get their ass handed to them at Call of Duty 4? message me and bring your A game! HellHammer was a drummer in a black metal band called Mayhem. There is a heartwarming true story about that band involving shotguns and skull fragment necklaces! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayhem_(band)

:shhhh my nick name is tony (tony the tiger). and years ago i got a tattoo of a tiger that runs from my shoulder to my elbow. i was doing tattoo flash at that time mostly tribal stuff and people were asking the shop owner for tribals from that guy with the tiger tat. so he started calling my stuff tribals by tiger. tribaltiger evolved from that.

brprider is for Blue Ridge Parkway rider. I can't get enough of that road. I've ridden it from one end to the other and many times in the Asheville, NC area. Ride during the middle of the week whenever possible and watch out for Buicks!

Witchywmn

"Witchywmn" - from the Eagles song. Back when I was 19, I was trying my damndest to be everything the woman in this song was supposed to be. Now that I've gotten older and wiser (cough cough, giggle giggle), I guess I just hold onto the name for nostalgia reasons. Besides, I'm still a massive Eagles fan and still love the song.

BTW - It's been my screen name for years - starting on Prodigy ( told ya it's been years) and now on AOL.

Mine once belonged to the Denver Mounted Patrol Gymkhana Club in Colorado. It was given to me by the wife of the original founder who has since past away. I used it for my first electrical contracting business in 1999, then changed my company name to Eco-Electrical in 2007. Say it slow and you'll hear the meaning. :D

First name was picked cause it was my email address and I didn't realize it would be my screen name as well. I was thinking of changing it for a while and finally decided to change it when I met a group from the forum and one asked how to pronounce it.

For the second, all the names my family and friends call me are not fit for the general public, so I decided to pick something that had some meaning.

Looking at my avatar, I kinda figured that fit, so Voila, ParrotHead!

Biker Farm Boy
21st July 2008, 21:38
I grew up on a farm in western Pa. milking 70 Holsteins and driving big red Farmalls until 1976. My neighbor put me on a Harley 125 Hummer when I was 10, (in 1952) and I was hooked. From the age of 12 on I always had one or two of the two stroke Harleys around. The only non Harley bike I've ever owned in 54 years was a 125 MAICO.

I finally got through this thread.......Hue!

Ok, Mine is quite simple, I work on cars, a computer tune-up tech (And anything else they need done) and I also play Guitar, ok, it's more like i play at it because I enjoy the challenge.
I had a co-worker years ago (Still good friends) That got a car in that was running terrible, and looked at me, and say.."This must be a Jeffytune".

It kinda stuck, all the hard cars got called Jeffytunes, and when I joined my first web board, it was the Peavey forum, I thought that it fit there as well.

Over the years it has gotten shortened to just "JT", but I don't mined it at all.

Quebeker
22nd July 2008, 02:12
I moved to Ontario from Quebec about 11 years ago now.
10 years ago, I met my "future" wife and her family.
John, one of her brother-in-laws, finding out I was from Quebec, said:" Not a :censor Quebeker!"
It stuck with the :censor part for a little while, then only Quebeker.
BTW, I now consider him my best friend.

That means I'm a drummer to you non musical people!LOL I needed a name online and somehow drumballer came up so here I am

CaveDog
4th August 2008, 02:15
Long, long ago there was a popular local band around Boston called "The CaveDogs". Probably ten years ago I was struggling with "that user name taken" all the time when something brought that band to mind so I just put "CaveDog" and it took. I've used it ever since because it's rarely taken.
