After 24 years of riding triumphs I got my first Sportster last December,
I love the bike but kinda miss not having a kickstart.
It's a 1998 883c, I've done the 1200 conversion, put on straighshots with slash cut tips, big sucker air filter, black tank with red scallops and white pinstripes, western bars with a 6" rise with the wiring routed inside, corbin hollywood seat recovered white, red cigar grips, red dice valve caps and choke knob, cases chromed, fork sliders polished, black fork gaitors, white wall tyres with the front and rear rims and front hub and rear sprocket[or is it called a pulley when run with a belt?] powder coated red , and the headlight shell black with the rim kept chrome.
I can't take the front mudguard off as is illegal here [Australia] also must have a mirror on each side[looks crappy]. Next step will be to do something about the tailight it just looks to big.
I'm looking for a spider web derby cover not many people seem to do covers for sportsters does anyone know where I can get one.
I must say that having no experience of Harleys that this forum was a great help I learnt a lot of stuff by reading the posts.
One thing that does piss me off the attitude people have about sportsers not being very knowlegable about harleys would I big right in thinking that until the evo engine these where the fastest bikes they made and most entries in the record books for harley would of been sportsters. Buying a new bike for me was out of the question and I think the big twins are way overpriced.
Sportsters are great value for the price compared to the big twins and in my case I still had money left to do all the things I wanted to the bike.

If I'm not mistaken ALL entries in the record books for harley would be sportsters. And yes it is the most misunderstood bike on the planet.
Often imitated....never equalled!
Check at two bit choppers for the derby cover, they're one of the sponsers here.
Good luck on your search.

Oh....I almost forgot! Welcome to the club!
