View Full Version : Dude, where's my dealer?
garman68hd 6th April 2005, 15:04 Strangest thing..
I just received a letter from the Norwegian representative of Harley-Davidson Europe LTD, Mr. Thomas Magnussen. He wanted to inform me that my dealer, who just sold me my bike, is no longer authorized as a representative of HD. My dealer hasn't told me anything about this at all. Right now I don't even know where to take my bike for service. I tried to make some calls, but only got answering-machines (that's a good sign right there..). Have sent some emails to see if anyone can clarify the situation a bit for me.
pquirk 6th April 2005, 19:58 Hey Garman,
That sucks. Your first step is to get a manual so you can do the recommended service yourself. If you don't do it you will void your warranty. The second step is to find a place to take it if you do need warranty work. I see the MoCo website lists 11 dealers in Norway. I don't know where you are in relation to them, but I guess you'll have to pick the next closest one if you need one. You should start asking around to find a good Indy. Sounds like a bizzare situation to me, and if the dealer pulled something that would cause him to loose his franchise you probably don't want to do business with him anyhow. Good luck.
CuL8R 6th April 2005, 20:12 Wow, that does suck! I'm now curious as to what a dealer could possibly do to get excomunicated, cuz my local delar has probably done it too, whatever it is.
Keep us posted!

It certainly is strange. One day I'm talking to dealer on the phone and messaging through their website, the next day I get this letter. Whatever it is, it sure happened fast.
I'll work around this, I'm just curious if this is normal HD HQ-procedure? Very confusing for the customer :wonderlan.
There are other dealers I can go to, just gotta make sure they are still in business..
Awaiting response to email I sent them (HD Europe) earlier today.

My prediction is you'll get no real good answer from HD. They'll give you a B.S. line about how "the dealer's vision of HD was not consistant with the corporate policies...." Blah, blah. Why not take a trip over to the dealer and ask him face-to-face. It might be worth the trip just to see him turn red.
mark883 6th April 2005, 21:50 Might be just plain out of business too..... sometimes banks just show up and lock the doors and.....

LMAO@excommunicated.
SamIam 7th April 2005, 03:47 not paying the bills, i.e. not paying for the inventory. That will be the quickest way to excommunication. It's all about the money...
garman68hd 7th April 2005, 13:14 Just talked to dealer.
Funny thing this. It turns out this is some kind of a territorial thing between Norwegian dealers. Someone sold too many bikes :toungelau.
They are fighting for the right to do business, someone stepped on someone elses toes, and there you go..
I think I'll just stay out of it 'till the gunsmoke has blown away :smackh.
:headbang

oakies 4th February 2007, 04:39 I bought my first Sportster in 1976 from "Dees Harley Davidson" in Tonawanda NY. Two weeks after I got it, I rode back to the dealer for something...and it was a pizza shop....
